Brooks’ easy to read and understand discussion of the importance of naming good news in the sermon is immensely helpful. According to Brooks, good news preaching is intentional. This intentionality is through the interpretative reading of the text and moves through homiletical exegesis. In a practical manner, Brooks provides the method that will enable preachers to offer the gospel (good news) in every sermon. I found the practical sections of this book to be extremely helpful.
Christian Education is a part of God’s purpose to put everything in Creation under the feet of Christ; it serves as part of His purpose to subdue people from all nations to the glory of God. I also think a Christian Education is a better education, because it feed the soul as well as the mind. It addresses the whole human being; it involves the body, sprit and the mind. One important goal of Christian Education is to teach the student to reason biblically. If each adult person or the parents of younger student took it upon themselves to be more Christ-like and build their foundation of education to glorify God, they would choose the Christian Education over the Public Education, which is controlled by the state.
All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work"(NIV, 2010). Using this Scripture, Dr. Adams provided four –step biblical process that are the elements in the process of change. The first step is teaching the truth of the Bible, which is the Word of God. The counselor must teach the client what God has to say about the situation and what His standards are for living. This teaching involves what Adams calls “teaching in the milieu” or through real life situations.
Bill is the chief chaplain of the Colorado State Police and the Glendale Police. Bill and his family live in Englewood, Colorado. Content Summary Bill Fay guides readers through a step-by-step approach to evangelism in which believers share their faith with the world in such as way that is both simple and non-confrontational allowing the Holy Spirit to do His part by drawing and convicting non-believers. The proofs that Fay uses are logical and can be broken down into four steps. The first step is to ascertain the spiritual state of the person they are trying to reach.
Adams believes that once the patient is corrected, they then need to be discipled and trained in righteousness. These are Adam’s four stages of counseling (Adams, 1986). Adams basis his entire approach to counseling on the scripture 2 Timothy 3:14-17 “14 But you must continue in the things which you have learned and been assured of, knowing from whom you have learned them, 15 and that from childhood you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. 16 All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, 17 that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.” Adams states that the only way man can truly change is to have his heart changed through God’s Holy Spirit. Adams believes that man can make adjustments to his exterior, but he is unable to make any changes to his interior (heart, mind, emotions) (Adams, 1986).
Running Head: The Inspiration and Inerrancy of the Bible The Bible was Inspired by God Robert Surface Student # L23603038 Liberty University The Bible is the authoritative source of God’s Word to two hundred and forty seven million people throughout the United States who claim to be Christians. However, to accept the Bible as authoritative we must also accept the answers to more general questions in relationship to the Bible. We will discuss in this paper the question of what it means to say that the Bible is an authority as well as where that authority originates. We will discuss inspiration and the definition of inerrancy. In detail we will discuss the relationship between inspiration and inerrancy.
We also believe in Him and call Him Chukwu. He made all the world and the other gods." (Achebe, 179). Even when trying to understand the Christian faith their religious beliefs are so ingrained that they create commonalities that are not really there. Akunna continues to talk about how the many gods they worship are helpers of Chukwu because he cannot do everything alone.
Dr. Anderson displays a strong foundation of counseling through truth and having a relationship with Christ. Other web based articles were used to support the theory of Anderson’s book. Although the web based articles other different avenues of Christian counseling all of the sources used share a common root, how to show others how to overcome their problems to become healthy well adjusted individuals by using biblical concepts. Christian Counseling to the Spiritually Oppressed Discipleship is receiving instruction from a religious leader and being a follower who has learned to believe in the truth of the doctrine of his teacher. Discipleship in today’s world can be in the form of a Christian counseling.
He also explains to the reader that upon the second coming of Jesus Christ, God will award “Christlikeness” to His children. However, until this happens we are to mature towards this ultimate goal. In addition, the believer is not to simply postpone holiness, we are to practice it. Scripture tells us in Hebrews 12:14”for without holiness no one will see the Lord.” Most importantly, the objective of applying spiritual disciplines in the present is to be conscious of God’s presence and to be aware of his purpose in our lives. Moreover, Whitney challenges us to consider that godliness is the objective of the disciplines.
Early in my ministry, I made a conscious commitment to biblical preaching. My first priority has always been to answer the ques- tion, "What does this passage mean?" After I've explained as clearly and accurately as possible the meaning of God's Word, then I exhort people to obey and apply it to their own lives. The Bible speaks for itself to the human heart; it is not my role as a preacher to try to tailor the message. That's why I preach my way through entire books of the Bible, dealing carefully with each verse and phrase--even though that occasionally means spending time in passages that don't readily lend themselves to anecdotal or motivational messages.
