Have you ever watched Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone? Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone was adapted from a book with the same title by J.K. Rowling. The book was a big hit when it first published. It attracted people from Warner Bros. Studio then they made a movie version of it few years after. Some people who read the book before watching the movie felt disappointed with the result. This happens to other book adaptation movies. Limited duration of the movie, inaccurate characterization, and changes done by the director make book readers consider book adaptation movies as failure. The first problem that bothers book readers in watching the movie adaptation of their favorite book is the limited duration a movie has. Most movies set their duration from one to two hours. In making a book adaptation movie, the director has to cut some scenes from the book that are considered insignificant. On the other hand, most book readers think that almost all events happening in the book are important. One example is David Yates, Harry Potter and the Order of Phoenix’s director, cut the Quidditch game scene. That scene is supposedly showing how Harry gets kicked out of the game and Ron becomes the captain. Most Harry Potter fans were upset because of that. The second problem that annoys book readers when watching their favorite book turns into movie is the inaccurate characterization from the book into the movie. In casting the actor or actress, a director does not necessarily pick one actor that looks just how the book readers imagine. For example is the character Robert Langdon in The Da Vinci Code. The director of the movie, Ron Howard, got criticized for choosing Tom Hanks over Harrison Ford to play as Langdon. The Da Vinci Code readers were all agree that Harrison Ford was more similar to the character of Robert Langdon. The last problem that irritates book
