Pearl Harbor The road to war between the United States and Japan began because of the surprise air attack on the United States Navy base on December 7, 1941 in Pearl Harbor. Pearl Harbor is located on the south side of the Hawaiian island of Oahu and is the home of the U.S Naval Base. This was the first step that brought the United States into World War II. The Japanese attacked the United States without warning; the attack lasted for 110 minutes, from 7:55 a.m. until 9:45 a.m. Within the first two hours of bombing more than 2,400 Americans were dead, 21 ships had been sunk or damaged, and more than 188 U.S aircrafts were destroyed (Jennifer).
In this essay the bombing of Japan by the US will be analysed and justified in my personal opinion. The bombs dropped in Hiroshima and Nagasaki on August 9th 1945 and August 8th 1945 was completely necessary. The result of the atomic bomb being dropped meant that it ended the devastating Second World War, Japan learnt the error of its ways: they were barbaric and cruel to the allied prisoners they had captured; they did not follow the Geneva Convention. Also it ended many other conflicts with Japan. On August 9, 1945, President Harry Truman decided to drop and atomic bomb on Nagasaki, Japan.
Was the dropping of the atomic bomb on Japan justified or not? By Hannah Widlake On December 7, 1941 Japan carried out a devastating attack on Pearl Harbour, USA. During this time Japan was at war with China. Despite having a very powerful military, their war with China was using up their resources. During that time, most of their resources especially oil were coming from the USA.
Atomic Bomb Justification On the 6th of August, 1945, “Little Boy” was dropped on the Japanese city of Hiroshima. “Little Boy”, a nickname used by the United States, was one of the most disastrous bombs used in history. For decades, there have been feuds over whether or not the United States was justified for bombing Japan. Many people say that the U.S. killed poor innocent civilians, but both soldiers and civilians, were going to die in the war no matter what. The decision to drop the bomb on the two Japanese cities was what kept the war from prolonging.
With only a six month supply of oil in reserve Japan was forced to make a quick decision that would have an enormous impact on world events. Japan did not react the way FDR and the allied powers had planned. They felt forced into a corner and the only way out was to fight. Out of fear Japan invaded areas in China and Indochina to secure raw materials and resources to keep the expansion of its empire and military advancements. After this Roosevelt froze all Japanese assets in the US and restricted any access to oil or any kind of petroleum products.
An American that had been deeply divided over how much aid to give the Allies was not united in a common purpose: make the Japanese pay for their attack and rid the world of Nazism and Fascism. There were many deaths, including 68 civilians (most of them killed by anti-aircraft shells landing in Honolulu) there were 1,178 military and civilian wounded, and the death toll came up to 2,403 people. Pearl Harbor was a critical moment for the United States, because until the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor, the United States was staying out of a war that the rest of the world was involved in. When Japan attacked the United States, our country the U.S. declared war on them. When the U.S. declared war on the Japanese, Japan and axis’ allies declared war on our
On august 6th 1945, America, on the official order and authorization of President Truman, dropped one of the two most disastrous bombs in human history. These bombs were no other than atomic bombs which were created under top secret conditions by a Jewish German, Doctor Robert Oppenheimer. The first bomb was dropped in Hiroshima but since the Japanese government refused to surrender, three days later Nagasaki was also bombed. Many people still talk about the justification of the bombing of Japan today. Many argue that the U.S. did it mainly because of revenge of Pearl Harbor which was also a tragic event in history.
At 8:15am on August 6, 1945, approximately 300 to 500 feet above the highly populated city of Hiroshima Japan, the first atomic bomb ever used in warfare was detonated. Only minutes later 60,000 to 100,000 people were dead, most were vaporized leaving only an eerie shadow of carbon behind. In the year and months that followed hundreds of thousands of people died of radiation poisoning and radiation provoked disease. Children born in months immediately following the bombing were occasionally born without vital organs or limbs. Was the decision to drop this historical bomb a correct one?
They were forced to divert plans and weapons from the battle areas to homeland to protect them. Germany and Italy had also declared war against the United States. America was officially in World War II. Although the United States and Japan had bad intensions toward each other for quite a while, it took many events to build up that hatred and wish of destruction upon one another. The embargo, Tripartite Act, World War I all led to Pearl Harbor.
Hiroshima and Nagasaki were both very populated cities that had military members living there. "As far as I am concerned I made one great mistake in my life, when I signed the letter to President Roosevelt recommending that atom bombs be made; but there was some justification - the danger that the Germans would make them” (Einstein 620). Many innocent women and children were killed. Areas near where the bombs hit were contaminated with radioactivity. People died of radiation months and even years later after the atomic bombs explosions.
