“Blood Stripes” Danelo, David J. Mechanicsburg, Stackpole Books, 2006, 325 pages In David Danelo’s book Blood Stripes”, young soldiers in Iraq tell their tales and stories of how there life was from day to day. These tales mostly took place in 2003, 2004, and 2005 within many parts of Iraq. Most of this book talks about combat, military strategic moves, and what marine infantry soldiers think about situations. During this book United States Marines take control and clear out major parts of Iraq as the United States Army withdraws their troops. Although the Army had been in these parts of Iraq before the Marines were, the grunts, ground soldiers, of the Marines knew that the Army didn’t do their job and that they would now have to clear the area of all Mujahideen themselves. The Mujahideen are a global terrorist organization that occupies many parts of the Middle East, and the main group of people America was fighting against along with the Al Qaeda. As these soldiers have as much fun as they can and develop a brotherhood with each other, they also experience many tragedies and losses as many of their fellow Marines lose their lives and limbs while defending…show more content…
I recommend this book because it not only gives you a look into the life of a grunt, but also into the most recent war America has been involved in. Danelo’s book is also a very good book with a lot of action that will keep your heart pounding if you are into the book. Although no one will ever understand what kind of brother ship these men have and how to be a leader under immense stress, reading this book will give a better understanding to the reader. If I had to rate Danelo’s “Blood Stripes” on a scale from one to ten based the detail of information given and the deciphering of war into words then I would give this book a perfect score and recommend it to anyone that is looking for a good book to
