In the Grimm’s version of Cinderella (628-633), the day of the wedding Ashputtle begs to go. Her stepmother dumps a bowlful of lentils in the ashes and says that she will be allowed to go if she can pick up the lentils from the ashes in two hours. Ashputtle asks two doves to help her pick up the lentils. They help her, but once she is done, the stepmother again throws lentils in the ashes. (629).
As Perry walks thinking to himself about what just happened a lady jumps out of her car and yells Michael’s name. It was Perry’s girlfriend from high school; she jumps on him and gives him a big hug. In one moment Perry recalls a random night that he would never have thought about if it wasn’t for him remembering the smell of her “spearmint kisses.” No words were needed to be said, all it took was his nostrils inhaling the sweet smell of her fresh breath and the memories flashed through his head. Being a paramedic, nurse, and firefighter, Perry tells some stories that are very sad and seems to put him into a lower mood. Some of the
They weren't only the audience, not only looking on; they were acting.” ❏ She is excited about having an almond in her cake which is very minuscule ❏ Towards the end of the story she begins to cry, hinting at herself realizing she is alone ❏ Miss Brill in my opinion is a widow ❏ The story was written in 1920 and it was very rare for a woman to not marry ❏ Perhaps the reason she made such a big deal about everything in the park is to help herself forget about her husband ❏ Perhaps her and husband used to go there every Sunday and that is why she attends by herself ❏ At the end of the story it reads, “She unclasped the necklet quickly; quickly, without looking, laid it inside. But when she put the lid on she thought she heard something crying.” ❏ Perhaps the reason she unclasps it quickly without looking is because it was a necklet that her husband and given to her and that is the reason for the
Having fled so far from Vietnam, I can no longer imagine what to say, or how I should address my prayers, or for that matter what promises I could possibly make to the long departed. My mother, on the other hand, lives in America the way she would in Vietnam. Every morning in my parents’ suburban home north of San Jose, with a pool shimmering in the backyard, my mother climbs a chair and piously lights a few joss sticks for the ancestral altar which sits on top of the living room's bookcase. Every morning she talks to ghosts. She mumbles solemn prayers to the spirits of our dead ancestors, and to the all-compassionate Buddha.

I looked around at all the unfamiliar faces and empty seats and smiled and continued to walk until I found my seat number.

Nine-Eleven-Two Thousand and One “What day are you guys planning on going back to Maryland?” I asked my grandparents, who had came down to visit. The morning was beautiful, the rays of the sun warmed my cool cheeks as we stood outside waiting for my mom to finish paying the bill. I will never forget the look on my moms face as she stormed towards us; she looked sad, confused, and terrified all at once. The words she spoke, are words I will never forget. “Terrorists have high jacked a few planes and one has hit one of the World Trade center buildings.” She said slowly, as if she couldn’t believe it herself.
Kaylan Nigh ENGL 131-11 Dr. Jolly Sharp September 5, 2014 The Pottery Class Another day has come at the Pink Pig Pottery Studio, the sound of socializing soccer moms and elderly woman with the scent of powder and roses fills the room. Each new day makes me wonder what I will go through. Maybe I’ll be getting tossed around, ripped apart & spun out of my whits to become the most beautiful, cold, dull and grey vase ever to be placed in someones home. But for me scraps is all that I've been, mushed back together and thrown into the plastic bag, left for another person to play with me and and mold me to end up throwing me back in the bag where I don’t belong. Elated and surprised my thoughts were wrong.
Dear Journal, It seems like a lovely day to go down to the shore or something. Hopefully my dear mother would let me explore. -Proserpina Running quietly downstairs, I find my mother in the kitchen getting ready to go out into the field. “Oh my dearest mother,” I beg, “may I go down to the shore please?” My mother smiled at me. “Of course, but make sure to stay with the sea nymphs.” I nodded my head in response and dashed out the door.
