She felt the first two groups were more honorable in comparison to the last two. The concept of socioeconomic status is very evident in her approach. French (1978, p. 333) further elaborated, “The female population had a higher proportion of Blacks than did the male populations.” Historically, and still in some ways the criminal justice system has been biased against African Americans. How do George and Lennie represent the theme of “outsiders”? The word “outsiders” means when someone or something doesn’t belong in a particular place or job. The American society developed outsiders in the 1930’s because of how women; black people and anyone who they thought was different from them were out casted from the “American white society”. The women in America were treated as a house wife and the men use to just keep them locked away; they were just treated like an ornament not a human. There was a time in history when “Black men were encouraged to marry white women in order to enrich the slavemaster’s plantation with more human labor” (Black Women’s Liberation). The black men back then could choose anyone they wanted for a mate while “Black women had little choice in selection for her mate” (Black women’s Liberation). Now, things are different. Black women do have a selection and they tend to emasculate the men of their choice. There is a new movement for black women and “Women in the women’s liberation movement assert that they are tired of being slaves to their husbands.

Black people are more threatening; a sketchy looking Latina is more threatening than a Caucasian. A simple looking Caucasian doesn’t look too threatening, depending on how large, but a black person will always make me feel threatened. Mostly because I did not grow up with black people; I am not comfortable around them. Same with Latinas, but this is a common thought among people. Men have it worse than woman.

An example of this could be not employing a woman purely because of her gender. Indirect discrimination: can occur where there is a policy, practice or procedures that applies to all workers, but particularly disadvantages workers of a particular sex. For example, a requirement that job applicants must be six feet tall could be met by significantly fewer women than men.
A black man does not have to only be racist against a person of the different race but also can be racist to someone of his own race. That is what people misunderstand all the time but Hurston shows readers that what they think is false. You don’t have to be racist against someone of an opposite race. You can be disgusted not only with an opposite race but also your same race. Most people seem to believe that racism is a dislike between two different cultures.
