Comparative Essay on: The Original Creation of the Earth The Big Bang Theory vs. Six-Day Creation Physical Science 210, Professor Travis Bradshaw May 6, 2013 Comparative Essay on: The Original Creation of the Earth The Big Bang Theory vs. Six-Day Creation Introduction I was watching the 1955 movie “Tarantula” on the Turner Classics Movie channel. It was about a giant tarantula wreaking havoc in the Arizona desert. The lead character was discussing the habits of tarantulas and some of their unique characteristics with a scientist of some sort. The scientist responds to the lead characters’ observations with the following; “That’s how God made the earth’s creatures; each for a specific purpose in their specific environments.” (Alland & Arnold, 1955) Something has definitely changed in the mainstream of thinking since 1955. This paper will attempt to briefly look at and compare what are basically two opposing worldviews of the origins of the universe. One is the “Biblical or Creationist worldview” which states that God created everything in a literal six days approximately six thousand years ago. (Deckard & Dewitt, 2003, p. 17) The opposing worldview theorizes that a “Big Bang” occurred billions of years ago and that the universe and our world have evolved to the point where we see them today. (Deckard & Dewitt, 2003, p. 17) While the creationist view is based upon Scripture writings inspired by the one who did the creating, the Big-Bang is a theory that is relatively new and at present seems to be weakening in acceptance in the scientific community due to many inconsistencies and improvable assumptions. The Big Bang Theory: In the 1920’s a Belgian priest named Georges Lemaitre first suggested the Big Bang Theory after studying ideas on solutions of Albert Einstein’s relativity equations.
