Ervin Johnson Jr. was born at August 14, 1959, in Lansing Michigan. He had a big family he had six brother and sisters. Johnson with six siblings was inspired by his parents because they were both were working to support the family. He also practiced all day to get better. Johnson came from an athletic family his father used to play basketball while he was in high school and he learned from his father and his mother used to play basketball when she was young and he watched his older brothers play basketball. By the time he was in eighth grade, Earvin Johnson began to think about his future as a basketball player. He had become a dominant play in his junior high player in his team. He had scored 48 points in a game. He had looked forward to going to Sexton high school a school where basketball was doing very successful in basketball and was like five blocks from his house. His plans did not go he didn’t go to Sexton that was an all-black-school. He instead went to a school that his sister Pearl and his Brother Larry went to that they did not have a pleasant time with. Everett that was an all-white school that had racism like some people threw rocks at the bus when black kids where in it. Larry was kick off the basketball when he was confronted during practice then told his brother not to play there. Johnson did join the school’s basketball team but he became frustrated with his new teammates ignored him in practice, they did not pass the ball, he almost got into a fight
