Origin of death BIBLICAL VIEW In the book of Genesis- “ origin” The Bible plainly says that God is the Creator, He called everything that He had made—“ all the creation, including Adam & Eve “ —‘very good’ (Genesis 1:31) Before the Fall of Adam creation was in a state of “ goodness” . the Bible’s perspective of history, death is an enemy, not an ally 1 Corinthians 15:26, St. Paul describes death as the ‘last enemy.’ -death is the penalty for sin (Romans 6:23) Sin and death.’ This phrase sums up the history of death, as recorded in Genesis, the first book of the Bible. - death is an intruder into the life of humanity –due to Adam’s sin. - Death is not part of God’s original plan of creation . God judged sin with death, as He warned Adam He would (Genesis 2:17, cf.3:19). Adam’s rebellion against God in effect he was saying that he wanted life without God. Adam wanted to decide truth for himself, independent of God. Adam was the head of the human race, representing human beings , who are his descendants. The human race sins ‘in Adam,’ after the likeness of Adam. In other words, humans have the same problem Adam had. Why death is the fate of all humanity ? All humanity is implicated in Adam’s sin … as St Paul affirms : “ By one man’s disobedience all were made sinners “ “ therefore , just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, and in this way death came to all men, because all sinned – Nevertheless, death reigned from the time of Adam “ ( Romans 5: 12,14 ) When Adam rebelled against God, all human beings, represented by Adam, effectively said that they wanted life without God / independent of Him.
