Betrayal and Persuasion Betrayal 04 1. Which speech was more persuasive? Explain your answer. I think Antony’s speech is a lot more persuasive then Brutus’s because he used more persuasive elements. He is making the audience conclude things by what he saying. He puts more heart and thought into what he is saying making the audience believe him. 2. What examples of appeals to emotion did Brutus use? What examples did Antony use? Who handled the appeal to emotion better? Explain your answer. Brutus used “any dear friend”, “I weep for him; he was less fortunate”, there are tears for his love; joy for his ambition”, and Speak; for him I have offended”, as examples of appeals to emotions. Antony says, “ bear with me; my heart is in the coffin there with Caesar, and I must pause till it come back to me”, that shows appeal to emotion. I think Antony handled appeal to emotion better because he put more of his heart into his speech. 3. What examples of appeals to reason did Brutus use? What examples did Antony use? Who handled appeals to reason better? Explain your answer. Brutus used “had you rather Caesar were living and die all slaves, than that Caesar were dead, to live all free man”, as appeal to reason. Antony used appeal to reason by saying “ you all did see that on the Lupercal I thrice presented him a kingly crown, which he did thrice refuse: was this ambition”.
