(289~291) I agree with Johnson’s claim of, Sleeper Curve makes the viewers improve so they Liu 2 can and will want to watch more TV shows. However, watching TV have more factors that make you more stupid than make you smarter. This skill ends up letting people watch more and more TVs, which already is a bad thing, and they become more stupid. First of all, TV shows’ content also is a great factor of being smart which Johnson never talks about. In “Watching TV Makes You Smarter” when he talked about the show 24, he ignored the content of the show like the torture scenes, and go straight to the Sleeper Curve.
Twenge says, “reality TV is very popular, and it is supposed to how ‘real life’ and real behavior without the façade of fictionalized dialogue and story lines. But because reality TV stars are so narcissistic, it’s really a showcase for narcissistic behavior” (pg 7).
While Jersey shore may be an entertaining show, they are overpaid to just party and being bad influences. MTV on the other hand may say that whether people like it or not they are getting tons of ratings and the cast deserves what they get. They may believe
How people are influenced by the show Duck Dynasty We are living in the day and age of “Reality TV”. No matter what channel you turn to on your television you could find some sort of reality TV show on at some point during the day. A lot of the reality shows that are on, whether it be day or night, show behavior and language that is unsuitable for children and adults to be influenced by. While some people choose to watch these types of shows for the entertainment value I don’t think they realize the actual influence it has on their life. On the other hand, there are still some reality shows on that influence people in a positive way.
Comedy or Subliminal Messages Often times in comedic television subliminal messages underlie the punch lines. Television shows such as Family Guy feed unintentional messages into the subconscious that can unknowingly, shape and mold one’s views on a variety of topics. Anyone who has ever seen an episode of Family Guy can attest to the offensiveness, weirdness and extreme bluntness of the show. Nevertheless, those that are offended by the show usually do not see how it transforms real life situations into ones that Americans can humor themselves with. One article in particular, Antonia Peacocke’s, Family Guy and Freud: Jokes and Their Relation to the Unconscious, speaks upon the overt offensiveness within the show.
“Faking is inevitable in television. In fact, all television is fake, and audiences are happy for it to be so.” With ever increasing competition, television channels have to find different tricks to increase their viewership and to fill up timeslots. “Faking” is one of the most common tricks. I have focused mainly on reality shows, live telecast and news telecast for this discussion. I have excluded soap operas or fiction because fiction can have the liberty to divert from reality.
Family is a big part of life and I am glad that they show so many scenes that go through family ties and struggles. I truly think that this tv show impacts society making these families seem normal when in reality they shouldn't be. The Bible talks about how a family should be one man and one woman like Adam and Eve. This show depicts gays as a normal thing, where it is not completely normal yet. This assignment changes the way I consume media because sometimes what you consume over the television is wrong and it has hidden meanings or doesn't make sense i real
As I sit in front of my TV watching one of my favorite shows go off, I try to put myself in any of the characters shoes. What would I do in that situation? Would I have acted like that? Would I have said that? No matter the topic; history, sports, politics, media, sexuality, etc., The Boondocks will be very truthful and blunt about it.
There was also shows like The Andy Griffith Show that demonstrated examples of healthy, wholesome relationships in quaint settings. Sometimes shows like these are even therapeutic because they offer helpful advice, and they help people dealing with issues of their own to realize they aren't alone in their struggles. Then many of today's shows should be censored, I believe. There shows that encourage guests, and sometimes pay them, to argue, to use profanity, to question the paternity of their children, and to actually fight while the program is being aired. There are even shows masquerade as news programs.
Now that television is playing a crucial role in elections candidates not only have to sound good but look good too. "because of television's celebrity system, Presidents are losing their distinctiveness as social actors and hence are often judged by standards
