Benefits of owning a pet Any pet owner would tell you that their pet, is more than just an animal, but is a best friends or a part of the family. How many of you here have a pet? Now how many of you love them like their family? I definitely know I do. While many people say owning a pet has many cons, there are also many pros to owning a pet. I think these pros overrule the cons. The following essay will be about some of the many benefits to owning a pet. I will be discussing how pets teach responsibility, stress busting and the health benefits. Everyone knows that owning a pet can teach responsibility but what everyone doesn’t know is that it’s true. From the time I got my first pets, which was about 3 years ago, I became more responsible as a student, a daughter, and just as a kid. I had to provide my birds with food and water and exercise. I also had to clean their cage, and every day, at least one thing had to be done for them. It may seem pretty simple, but it was actually hard, and it taught me to be more responsible. Pet ownership can also teach organization. With owning a pet kids have one more thing to add on to their schedules. There are homework responsibilities, chores, leisure time. Kids need to balance their time, in order do that, they schedule what they will do first from the time they come home to the time they go to bed. Pets are big time stress busters. Almost 50 % of women said they went to their pets for affection rather than their family. Pets have a soothing effect on people, and can get a person to calm down. A study showed children in the presence of a dog, during their physical examination had lower heart rates, lower blood pressure, and less behavioural distress, then kids with no dogs with them.
