The battle of the Spurs (1513) and the Battle of Flodden (1513), although to some considered small skirmishes, did make the countries of Europe start to notice England as a possible threat and certainly now knew about Henry VIII. England didn’t really gain the Honour and Glory that Henry VIII claimed they had gained through these two battles but it certainly did make other countries start to notice England and Henry VIII. One big success that Henry VIII did manage to accomplish in the early years of his reign was that he was able to gain the French pension he felt England deserved. After the capturing of the two towns Tournai and Thérouanne Henry demanded the French compensate the English for the areas that had been previously under English control. We can infer that this demand for the pensions was more
In addition, Anna Comnena’s genuine belief in her father for not only being morally sound during his reign, but extremely strong in his strategic planning, creates an endearing, but still effective, record of history. Anna Comnena’s strong background in education, her status as a princess, and even her gender, has played significant roles in the fact that we would not have the insight we do if it were not for this woman. But greater than all of these attributes, was Anna’s admiration for her father, Emperor Alexius I that created a unique window that we see today. Anna's pride in
The declaration of independence is one of the most influential documents in American History. It might have been that Independence would have been declared even if the Declaration wasn’t written but it shows the bravery, courage, and pride those colonists had when they wrote the declaration of independence. The same bravery, courage, and pride every single American should feel, During the hard times, on the battlefields and when at home. This Document serves an important role in a Americans life. The Declaration Of Independence isn’t just another piece of paper (or in this case parchment).
The early settlers of America were hopeful that the country would, in the future, be a place of freedom, strength, and opportunity. The history of the United States, however, does not simply consist of positivity, good times and happiness. There were many negative and difficult times during U. S. history, yet the struggle and perseverance of Americans has brought the country to its current state. United States history is filled with some of the best Government policies, leaders, books, inventions, and ideas, but also some of the worst. Expression of Nationalism Nationalism is a feeling that people have of being loyal to and proud of their country often with the belief that it is better and more important than other countries, or a desire by a large group of people (such as people who share the same history, culture, language, etc.) to form a separate and independent nation of their own. Nationalism can be expressed in a variety of ways and at a variety of levels. The Quebecois and the First Nations of Canada express their nationalism through politics, national days (culture), and language. Quebec independence debates are an example of expression of nationalism.
Gen Powell has given me an idol, a hero to look up to. I believe that we share somewhat of a similar background. I also understand the great opportunity that our parents have handed to us, by coming to this country. I appreciate the fact that I can become whatever I set my mind to, because America is the land of opportunity. As a United States soldier, I also have be trained that it takes hard work, motivation, and dedication to make your dreams come true.
Negative Effects of Nationalism Nationalism is when a country considers itself superior in comparison to other countries. It is a devotion to ones culture and beliefs. Nationalism began in the 17th and 18th century, simply because there was no such thing as loyalty to ones country but only loyalty to the “crown”. Although nationalism is a force that gives people a sense of community and inspires love for ones country, it is dangerous and can also inspire malicious acts. The main type of nationalism is ethnocentric nationalism, the idea that a certain nation is of higher rank over other nations and races.

There is substantial evidence linking success – including wealth, marriage, and friendships – to happiness (Schnittker). But people often see success as a feeling rather than a benchmark in their life. For someone to feel successful, happiness must exist somewhere in the equation. The right kind of happiness can lead to successful habits.
Nationalism has no credited creator but early elements of nationalism can be found in both the ancient Hebrews and Greek history. The earliest forms of nationalism came with the monarch’s beliefs in absolute power, unity and greatness in their kingdom. The French Revolution emphasizes “the people” and increased the French feelings about themselves and their desires for freedom. It was in 1972 when the Prussian army invaded France that “the people” defeated professional soldiers that the sense of nationalism emerged outside of sovereignty. There are several examples of nationalism taking to an extreme that results in problems for the nation; nationalism tends to lead to economic isolation.

Nationalist terrorism is thus a form of terrorism that takes its roots from, and is motivated, by patriotic fervor. Those who are engage in nationalist terrorism most often seek self determination in some form or the other – ranging from more autonomy to the establishment of an independent, complete sovereign state. The concept could include politics, ideology – but there is a clear, distinct orientation towards the ‘nation. “The patriotic feeling of loyalty to one's national ties can take different forms depending upon the economic and cultural context” (ETHNO-NATIONALIST TERRORISM, 2012).
