Kathy had said that “there was surprisingly little discussion about what she’d said” (82). Most of the students had seemed to avoid what Miss Lucy had told them. I think this may have been because they already knew in a way but didn’t want to accept it. Even when they went to the cottages they talked about their hopes for the future. For example, Kathy states “just for those few months, we somehow managed to live in this cosy state of suspension in which we could ponder our lives without the usual boundaries”
I had a lot of friends in high school, and I was well liked by my classmates. I got along with everybody, but because I was a Christian and my peers knew that I was a Christian, I did not always fit in. I did not get invited to a lot of parties. I am not exactly sure what my friends thought would happen if I came to a party; I guess they thought the roof would cave in. They knew that I was a Christian and that I did not drink, so they just did not invite me.
Providing religion courses in public schools has been a controversy for many for years. Recently, in some schools, there have been optional religious courses offered to the students for about an hour a week. Unfortunately, for those students that opted out of the doctrinal course, they have been left with nothing extra to learn. So because of this, ethics courses have been created for students who do not want to learn about religion. Some religious supporters disagreed with the existence of ethic courses, while others agreed it was a positive discovery.
• The Theory of Archetypes - Geza Roheim argues that the theory of archetypes is unnecessary. As humans share the same experiences, such as dependence on parents, it is not surprising that they construct similar myths. Also, some religious myths come from the experiences of a particular community and so it seems unlikely that they are born out of an idea which is present in all humans. Therefore, it is argued that Jung is not justified in stating that there is an ‘instinct for God’ just because people believe in God. Also, many people do not believe in God.
My parents were not religious when I was young and many of my family members were atheists so, I did not initially have much guidance in that regards. However as I got older mom found religion, and as such, we were thrust into a new world of ethics and beliefs. I was often taught in Sunday school about sex, about how I should view it and how fundamentalist Christians viewed sex. As a young child, I usually believed them when they spoke. I was taught that premarital sex was a sin, and that homosexuality and other forms of non-traditional sex were considered wrong.
She strongly dislikes her sister’s eagerness to fit in at school and tells Bianca, “You don’t always have to be what other people want you to be”, which shows us that she thinks Bianca should be herself and not follow in the path that her fellow school mates take. These two quotes show us how Kat feels about individuality and how she thinks it affects others. We often see Kat getting kicked out of the classroom for expressing her opinions which shows that she doesn't fit in. One of the first scenes in the movie shows Kat in her worn down car.The punk rock music coming from Kat's car is very different compared to the teenage girls in the car to her left. The camera shows the first group of teenage girls listening to music that you would hear on the radio, and then shows Kat, alone in her car, looking bored with her punk rock music blaring from the speakers of her car.
So students that does not believe in god or does not practice that religion does not have to so the pledge. Like in the essay You Can't Say That, “landlord, cowboy, brother-hood, yacht, and primitive such word are deleted because they are offensive to various groups.” We do have the freedom of speech that's not always the case. I feel us as a society, our culture, and our country that we maintain our religion and keep us different than all other cultures and countries. We maintain them by keeping up with them. By showing the people our religions not by telling them but by showing them, through the way we dress, the way we act, maybe even what we eat and do on a daily basics.
And I now was going to middle school where things hadn’t quite changed , as bullies kept getting the best of me but during those times , my mother said something to me that I will always remember , “If you don’t know them personally , don’t take it personal.” , these words made me disregard all those harsh words. During these times , I used to come across people who never really gave us anything but always expected us to share with
Although they are all different from each other, they seem to encompass the same principles of life and death. Normally whatever religion a person is born into, is the religion they end up practicing during their lifetime. Nevertheless, the reasons why those decide to convert are due to the lack of belief in their previous religion. In this generation opinions are changed, sides are taken, and debates emerge. Today there is great diversity among the religious backgrounds of students; this keeps the government believing that teaching of religion should be left out of schools.
She will stand up to anyone and anything, warrior-women Ugly Girl, as she puts it. She ends up dropping off the basketball team after not doing well in a game which also tells us that she is afraid of getting humiliated and be a laugh to others, but that is not her major problem. Her major problem is that she also overheard what Matt says and she is the one to convince the principal that Matt should be forgiven and allowed to return to school. What she does not count on is that she begins to actually be attracted to Matt, and for a girl who is been operating independently of what other people want and think, it is sort of a hard thing to deal
