When greeting customers you only have 5-15 seconds to make a good impression. It is time for retailers to wake up and stop doing what they have always done. If they do not make the necessary changes, they will continue to get the same sales results as in the past. Below are some tips to give you the advantage when greeting customers: Have a positive attitude. Maintaining a positive attitude while conducting business is a great way to begin a business relationship. Smile. This helps keep things friendly and upbeat through the course of the business conversation. Make steady eye contact. This will help you to appear confident and will develop trust within your client as you continue working with them. Keep focus on customer. Especially if you are meeting your customer for the first time, keep your focus on your customer and their needs. Get your customers involved in the sale. Make sure you inform them on all the promotions that are going on. Ask if they need and help with sizes…etc. Greet with their name. Greet them using their name, and make sure you continue using it throughout the conversation. Keep focus on customer—not on self. Especially if you are meeting your customer for the first time, keep your focus on your customer and their needs. Keep any conversation surrounding you to a minimum, and enable the customers to talk about themselves. A stare - like employees are watching to see if you’re going to steal something. The daze - they pretend they’re so busy they can’t see you. “Just one?” (As you enter a restaurant) DO NOT say “Next!”. . DO NOT read a book, play with your computer, or continue a conversation with a friend when a customer appears DO NOT say, “May I help you”? That question often irritates customers. They’ll usually answer no and walk away. DO NOT just stand or sit waiting for a customer to come to you
