BEH 225 Week 4 Assignment: Problem-Solving Simulation 1) How did you interpret the problem? A man has to figure out a strategy to move a cat, a mouse, and a dog in a raft across a river to the other side. The raft can take the man plus one animal in a single trip. The man can't take the dog along with him on the raft because that would leave the cat behind with the mouse. If the cat is left behind with the mouse then the cat will eat the mouse. The man can't even take the mouse along with him on the raft because that would leave the dog behind with the cat. If the dog is left behind with the cat then the dog will eat the cat. Sticking to these conditions, the man has to come up with a transporting system that moves all the animals to the other side of the river without having any of them eaten. 2) What strategy did you use and how did you evaluate your progress? I thought towards a strategy that builds on the rule that a cat-mouse or dog-cat combination should never be left behind at any stage. I thought in a step by step manner. When I eliminated the cat-mouse, and dog-cat combinations, I figured that the man can take the cat on the raft first, allowing the safe dog-mouse combination to be left behind. I evaluated my progress in a step-wise fashion. I knew for sure that my first step was correct, so it was a matter of building the strategy from there. The man had to leave the cat on the other side and come back to take the mouse or the dog on the raft in his second trip. At this point, I had to decide whether the mouse or the dog was the correct option. Similarly, at every step that I took, I considered all the options and eliminated the wrong ones. I evaluated my progress at the end of each step, and when I was sure that my strategy was correct until that point, I took my strategy ahead from there. 3) Did you encounter any obstacles while
