As stated by DeSimone (2011), "Teacher professional development is one of the keys to improving the quality of U.S. schools. Many education reforms rely on teacher learning— and the improved instruction that ideally follows — to increase student learning, so understanding what makes professional development effective is critical to understanding
Inclusive learning should promote positive behaviour and conduct. A teacher needs to recognise that learner comes with different learning styles and needs. Maslow stated unless certain need are met the learner cannot progress. Malsow ‘s hierarchy of needs theory is: Learners needs have to to be met in order for leaners to be involved and focused on their learning. For individual learning styles to be met, within a good learning sessions a teacher will ensure he/she takes a multi-sensory approach to teaching, this way each learner can work to the best of their ability.
Focusing so hard on excelling in English I was having a hard time acknowledging the basic sentence patterens staying devoted I past it. As growing up and still intrigue about learning more english, shockingly there is more that must be learn. Learning the importance of English I gained hobbies, education, and my writting technique. Over the years I have growned and I use English in my everyday life. I enjoy that I was able to learn how to comprehend the words that I was brought upon and use them to my advantage.As I got better understanding English I seem to be amired by books that keep me amazed by the knowledge that I learn from what I have read.
But at the same time it’s really not fair to compare their performance with your English speaking students. So there is a must need for standard based instruction that pertains to the needs of just ELLs. If we try to hold them to the standards of native English speaking students this could actually hurt their self esteem since they probably would never reach the same goals on the same level. Also it could lead to an ELL being missed diagnosed with a learning disability (LD). This is why there have been some efforts to develop English Language Development (ELD) standards.
Mark Swartz called it “language obstacles”. He believed that if you don’t have the fluent language, employers may find it hard to understand you, this will decrease your chance of getting a job at a good level (par. 12). Having a high level of English in writing, listening, speaking, and reading, is crucial in finding a job. Your proficiency in English is one of the main things that employers pay attention to, when you go for a job interview.
Actively encourage and support learners in becoming independent. Will lead learning “guided” groups, modelling concepts and language that the adult leading the learning has used. Will alter an activity or change the apparatus if an activity does not meet the learners needs to enable them to achieve or exceed the expected outcome. Are acutely aware of learners capabilities/prior learning/understanding and plan very effectively to build on these. The areas that I have assessed as “good” and therefore need improving are: Enable learners to access resources appropriately – I feel that I need to make more time to be able to show the children how they can get the best from the resources that they have available to them.
Without an appropriate background, teachers can inadvertently isolate or alienate LEP students who need to feel like they are “part of the instructional setting” so a positive self-image is preserved (Carrasquillo & Rodriguez, 2001). Often, LEP students need special language programs which will supplement their learning needs fairly. Because of the rise of “immigrants and high fertility rates among linguistically and culturally diverse groups in the United States,” (Carrasquillo & Rodriguez, 2001) the number of students in need of special resources such as language development programs and better trained teachers is significant. Educators need to adapt teaching styles to fit the needs of these students because they are important of our country’s diverse
Along with that I hope to learn more about better time management in my college skills 105 class. College skills class with be a very important one because, many people including myself need better time management skills. Lastly I look forward to further sharping my skills as a writer in English 101. In this day and age writing and proper grammar seem to be a passing fad, but to be successful in today’s modern world I believe it is extremely important to maintain and further advance these skills.
Teachers need to look at their ELL students as individuals with background knowledge, a culture, and prior knowledge. The goal of bilingualism is to teach the student English while appreciating their native culture including their ability to speak, read and write in their home language. Students, who continue to develop their native language while acquiring the English language, learn the second language faster. Due to this fact it is very important to get the student's parents involved in the education of their child, and to create a working relationship with their
Dear Mnings, and my goals from this class are to apply the knowledge that I have previously learned and to learn new ways to express myself. I think that this class can really help improve the way that we write. I am also hoping to make the best of this class and succeed productively. I hope to expand my techniques in writing. I also want to challenge myself to be a better person where my grammar is concerned.
