Becoming A Chef Midterm Assignment Shuang Zeng 1. List 6 things about the restaurant industry that you will enjoy, and why. The restaurant industry offers plenty of reasons why people would enjoy going into this type of business. For me, I will definitely enjoy the restaurant industry because I want to try new kinds of cooking, the travelling, the experience of opening my own restaurant, meeting new people, learning about the various kinds of wine and the satisfaction due to a sense of ownership. The biggest enjoyment in the restaurant business, and I think this would be common to most people, is getting to try new and different types of cuisine. There are so many cultures and cuisine that is out there, one could have a long career in this business and not be able to try every kind of dish. I know that not every dish would be to my liking, but I need to try at least once. I will never know I don’t like a dish unless I try it. I grew up eating mostly authentic Chinese cooking. But even this type of cuisine, I must admit, I have not been able to try close to everything. Each region of China has its own style and taste, and I am sure this is also the case with other countries. And speaking of other countries, it is best to experience different cuisine by actually travelling to different places. I have read that many great chefs have gotten inspiration for their menu items by visiting different countries. I really enjoyed travelling, and being able to use travel as a tool in enhancing my career is a great perk. I know it is a challenge to open my own restaurant, but accepting this challenge is something I will enjoy. I want to be active not just in developing my menu, but the process of selecting a great location, decorating a restaurant, and designing the logo is something that I look forward to. And after I open my restaurant, I am sure I am able to meet
