Traditional imagery of the once nurturing housewife has been overridden in the media with frequent depictions of women as sexual objects. These objectifications are solely based on their physical appearance and sexual appeal (Caruthers, 2006). The socially constructed myths and ideologies in modern day society implant onto woman that they are or should be concerned about their appearance. This is what influences a guy’s impression. However we all acknowledge that one should just pay enough attention to her physical beauty because inner beauty is most important.
The author purported, "... It may seem that the promise of beauty is nothing but a commercial myth that binds women to its costly pursuit." (Peiss 23). These commercials such as those in television shopping channels illustrate their perspectives of how people should look with cosmetics on. In reality, that contraception may not apply and appeal to all.
In my opinion, Americans tend to think that their appearance is everything and go to great measures to get their desired looks. I also believe that people in society are always trying too hard to make them self look like their ideal celebrity. I feel that men and women have different standards when it comes to appearance and how they view it. I also agree with Nancy Hellmich in her article, “Do Thin Models Warp Girls Body Image?” as she says that girls are becoming skinnier and skinnier as the years go by. I think as society tends to focus on their appearance more, it also becomes more dangerous.
I do agree with Drevno in this article. It seems like everybody is trying to look like the ideal figure, but as we all know the majority is not ideal so we try to become that attractive figure that we think everybody wants. Drevno says in her article “Everywhere you look you will find images of women and men who typify what our society considers “beautiful”(P.2). What that quote means is that “unreal” beauty is all around us because our world believes that that is the true meaning of beauty when according to Drevno it is not. A friend of mine named Moe, was in a sense overweight and he didn’t like it because of what other people thought about it.
In my opinion, I think every woman is beautiful and the people who don’t have those characteristics should also get an opportunity to become a model as well; no matter what size they are big or small. This is why plenty of women have insecurity problems. These misguided women change their physical features such as their face using plastic surgery to fix their eyes, nose, lips and other parts of their face. The ad Kilbounre is describing is similar to the picture in the Bebe ad, and she is trying to make women see just how degrading these images are. The woman in the Bebe ad is very desperately attempting to get the man's attention by leaning on him and focusing her attention on him, but he doesn't seem interested. The image is posed like that to show superiority and power that men supposedly have over women. This teaches women that they need to constantly dote on the man, whether he pays attention or not.

She was caring, intelligent, and ambitious. Since Gloria was judged by the way she looked, no one realized how great of a person she was. We need to take more time to get to know people instead of judging by physical images because “Beauty is in the eye of the beholder”, if you would have gotten to know her, she would have looked more attractive. I believe that anyone can be pretty, if Gloria would have put her hair down and dressed in more trendy clothes people would have thought she was very attractive. Even someone that is “pretty” can have an ugly personality, so you never know unless you get to know a person.
