Beauty from Ashes: Reflections on My Internship Cassie Robinson Liberty University Abstract It is indeed a high calling into the world of professional counseling. Much study and preparation are required to prepare the student for the harsh demands put on not only their time, but the emotional toll it can take as well. Having a professional to guide the student through the process of assessing clients, applying theories, making diagnoses, and offering the student encouragement, correction, and accountability is the hallmark of the internship. Watching as individuals enter an office totally closed off to the idea of counseling but ever so slowly beginning to relax, participate, and enjoy the process is of great importance to the up and coming professional. Perhaps the most rewarding benefit of all though, is the recognition of God’s handiwork amidst the rubble of a seemingly ruined life. By helping the individual begin to put the pieces back together and sense that there is hope, that things can be better with a little work, is ministry at its best. Beauty from Ashes: Reflections on My Internship Imagine for a moment having all the pieces to a very complex yet very beautiful puzzle but not knowing what the finished product is supposed to look like. By studying the individual pieces, it is easy to deduce that the image is one of great beauty because of the intricate designs, details, and colorations. However, without an example to follow, the possibility of completing the puzzle could prove to be an extremely difficult task and could take double, even triple the time to finish. If someone were to provide the box lid that showed the completed puzzle, the task gets easier.
