More than merely surviving, nature seems to be taking over in a way that gives Miss Sasaki “the creeps,” as if humans have had their chance to contain the world they wanted, and nature is returning to take over again. Like a punishment or have been banned from living in this world the way humans want. Hersey was against the bomb dropping. He has not said it straight out, but within the hidden literature, there are his feelings. Feelings that say maybe the human race does not deserve to control their own lives since someone always gets hurt.
Antigone claims that Creon’s power to make laws should only apply to those of the living, his power should cease with regards to those of the dead. Antigone’s believes that one’s life in the underworld should be joyous because it is eternal, and if her brother Polynices does not receive a burial then he will doomed in the afterlife to endless unhappiness. Creon does not dispute Antigone’s right to her own personal interpretation of Theban religion, however religion’s subjectivity prevents it from ever having any ruling power over people; each individual has a different interpretation of what religion means to them. State laws, on the other hand, are completely objective and are simple to understand and follow. Laws bring clarity to a dysfunctional world; they are the bedrock of the city.
Censorship is the idea of not revealing ideas and text in order to benefit society. But in many ways, censoring items causes the world to create biased thoughts based on the limited information released. In some cases the world is blinded because they are told nothing to begin with. Historical events such as the holocaust can prove this true. To this day society continues to be censored from ideas by the government and companies that impact our ways of life and learning.
Holden is chasing a dream that he cannot accomplish. He sets his goals to high and realised he couldn’t stop the loss of innocence. Holden want to be isolated from other people and wishes to get away, “Just so people didn’t know me and I didn’t know anybody. I thought what I’d do was, I’d pretend I was one those deaf-mutes. That way I wouldn’t have to have any goddam stupid useless conversations with anybody” (Salinger 198).
The reason why they wanted to remove it was because it supposedly interfered with the public space, and thought it attracted graffiti, and terrorists. In March 15th 1989 they removed his sculpture and scrapped the metal. Both artists didn't have much of a say so in their wishes. They had to just deal with the courts ultimate decision and continue without their
It almost leads us to question Henry’s morals if he is willing to kill infants. Although we assume that Henry is just playing up what will happen because he hasn’t lost control of them yet we have to play with the notion that Henry isn’t on as high of a moral ground as we thought even though it might be a just ground. This speech also uses a lot more detail to describe certain events than the other two speeches. He vividly states, “ the blind and bloody soldier with foul hand defile the locks of your shrill-shrieking daughters:”(34-35). This is very detailed and horrific because he is saying he won’t be able to stop his soldiers from raping the women in the city.
People will think it is temporary but ignoring it will have already hurt the environment. Additionally, not only do people not notice such doublespeak, but even in the event that they identify doublespeak, they may not be against it because they do not understand its bad effects. Furthermore, he uses active words to express how doublespeak will hide reality from people. For instance, in the last two paragraphs, he states that doublespeak will produce “suspicions, cynicism, distrust and hostility”. He tries to get people’s attention to think about how doublespeak will disturb their lives.
Lopez believed that Nathaniel could overcome his illness by getting him off the streets, and placing him in a more musical environment. But, at the end of the day, schizophrenia is an unpredictable, incurable illness, and Nathaniel proved that from time to time. When Nathaniel was asked what was troubling him with the Lamp program/administrators, Nathaniel goes on a rampage that shows an uncontrollable angry side of him. “The issue have is that nobody here knows how to do their goddamn job because they are imbeciles, and they are a DISGRACE, and I will not have any of these motherFUCKERS tell me what I can or cannot do, when they do not have on ounce of aaabilityo do their own motherfucking jobs because they are inept, ignorant, horrible bastards who cannot perform the simples aspect of their sworn duties” (Ayers, 238) Lopez describes the event, “His eyes are red with rage. I've never seen this side of him and I have no idea what might come next” (Lopez 238).
Think on this the next time you observe discrimination taking place and ask yourself if you really want to sit back and let it happen. Even telling friends a joke isn’t funny or asking a co-worker not to use a particular slang term makes a difference towards ending discrimination in our society. If you answered “yes” to between five and eight questions then you may challenge discrimination consistently. It is likely that you recognise many different types of direct and indirect racism, and that you understand how discrimination against one person or group ends up hurting all people. You may not realise, however, that each time you are silent against discrimination you become part of the problem rather than the solution.
Another example of a danger of naivete and an uninformed population is not following orders given to you and allowing yourself to become a target and in danger of being murdered. For example, Merlin van tornhout avoided poisoning the Sutter’s well. “When I couldn’t put the poison in the sutter’s well, I went to Harvey. He said they’d come after me, the klan would. I don’t have any choice but to run” (121).
