The goal of FBA, regardless of which methods are used, is to answer certain questions: 1) Under what circumstances is the behavior most/least likely to occur (e.g., when, where, with whom)? 2) What outcomes does the behavior produce (i.e., what does the person get or avoid through his or her behavior)? To answer these questions, the information gathered must be analyzed and summarized. A variety of tools are available for data collection and synthesis. In many cases, an informal or abbreviated approach can lead to reasonable interventions.
They include: forcing uncommon responses, using free association, using analogy, looking for unusual combinations, visualizing solutions, constructing pros and cons of an argument and constructing relevant scenarios. In the debate on minimum wage it would be necessary to use one or more of these skills. Using a pro and con argument as well as constructing scenarios would be effective ways to inspire us to visualize solutions to promote change and provide unity on this issue. Pros and cons of a situation need to be approached without bias which is very difficult. Until you can be neutral about an issue you will not get effective pros and cons.
