173 Reflective Journal. Week 1: Aims of the criminal Justice system This week was essentially an introductory topic and provided me with a basic understanding of the aims and operations of the criminal justice system. I learned that there is a number of different steps within the criminal justice system and the involvement of all the parties involved such as police, judge and jury and the defence. According to John Champion the main purpose of the criminal justice system is to process and prosecute individuals who commit crimes against society and to deal out suitable punishments for these individuals. This is a pivotal part in terms of maintain the functioning of society and to ensure that people don’t go around breaking laws wherever and whenever they want.
Criminal Justice Policy Process Amber Pickett AJS/582 February 4, 2013 Joseph Gutheinz Abstract This manuscript will describe the criminal justice policy process. The manuscript will also include the key actors in the criminal justice policy process, the steps involved in the criminal justice policy process, and suggestions to improve the criminal justice policy process. Criminal Justice Policy Process Crime control policies, protocols, standards, and guidelines are the efforts of the government to protect society from criminals by reducing crime through initiating policies to control criminal justice issues. The actors of the criminal justice policy process unite to determine what laws and policies can make society a safe place for everyone (Marion & Oliver, 2012). The criminal justice policy process reflects what is best for society as a whole and not what is best for individuals.
UNIT 501 1.3 Analyse the barriers and challenges to communication within own job role. In order for a manager to work and perform all the tasks required of him when carrying out his role then he needs to communicate with his staff in a way in which they can understand. It is important that we communicate in an open accurate and straightforward way this creates a good working relationship and a trustworthy environment. Where communication breaks down is when we encounter barriers in the work place it is important that as a manager I can overcome these barriers otherwise the flow of communication becomes ineffective. Appraisals help you to keep your skills and knowledge up to date by highlighting areas that you need to develop and planning how to do this. 1.4- Priority should be given to essential skills and knowledge such as fire safety, manual handling and other skills that are mandatory and all employees should have. Then there are desirable skills that are not essential but you would like some of your staff to have such as resident centred exercise courses, I.T courses and team leader courses. 2.1- See S.W.O.T analysis.
* * * * * Research Process and Terminology * ME * CJA/334 * March 5, 2014 * Dennis Dougan * Research Process and Terminology * How will this new terminology and knowledge apply to a career in criminal justice? Essentially, understanding the terminology that is associated with a specific career path is important because of the use it gets in the line of work. In criminal justice and other social science careers, the terminology carries over and without understanding it completely, terminology can hinder research capabilities as well as understanding previous research materials. Although different criminal justice careers have their own terminology based on their line of work, the research terminology is nearly universal. How can not knowing the proper terminology affect you as you conduct criminal justice research?
However it is important to understand that not all teams evolve smoothly. Team cohesion within the police force is essential for a successful outcome because it is important for all members in different ranks to work together for example police constable, police sergeant, inspector, chief inspector all work together on a case to receive positive outcome because they each have different roles and responsibilities in which are important. This again leads to positive team cohesion because the team works together to complete the task
* 1.2 Lack of communication in the workplace can result in relationships being strained and unfulfilled, it is very important that there is good communication between all members of staff as this ensures things run well and mistakes are not made and things are not overlooked. It also enables us to work effectively with each other. * 2.1/2.2/2.3/2.4 Reading care plans is always a good start when establishing the individual’s communication needs and preferences, if the service user is new to your home then either ask the previous carers or the service users friends and family as they are likely to know and can pass this information to you, this also enables you to put this information in your own care plans for the individual. If the service user is not new to the home but you are, ask other staff how they communicate with them. When promoting effective communication you should ensure that you have all the information on how the individual prefers to communicate, and to be very aware of the environment, ensure there are no distractions, for you or the service user.
The personnel issues will be discussed further on in this paper. To solve the practical problem of the officer area presenting an unkempt appearance, a simple weekly roster of duties that assigns specific responsibilities to the entire workforce. This roster needs to be fair, and the employees must understand that although the duties required are not outlined in their job descriptions, the duties are necessary, fairly distributed, and most importantly of all temporary. Reassurance of the affected employees will make this transition less painful and more effective. To keep this decision short, simple, and fair the consensus decision making tool will be employed.
