How much more should we take the criticism of superficiality? For centuries women have been portrayed as weak and submissive. In experts about Barbie and military women there is a distraction on the point of view towards women. In an apology for the life of Ms. Barbie D. Doll, Rita Isakson is criticizing an article of Barbie’s that Marilyn Ferris Motz wrote. Isakson is proving Motz that he is wrong that Barbie’s do not harm young girls mind. In Uncle Sam and Aunt Samantha they are criticizing women that are in the military. In an apology Motz stated that “Barbie dolls encourage young girls to be conformists focus in“leisure activity, personal appearance, popularity, and the consumption of materials” (1). What this means is that young girls should not be wasting their time playing with dolls, instead they have to be at home doing superficial things such as cleaning, cooking, and washing cloth. Motz also implies that we are influenced by Barbie’s looks. He says that we want to have their skinny waist and narrow hips. That is why we fall into a depression because we want to be like a Barbie doll and we can’t and we try our best to look just like them. We stop eating so we can lose weight and start exercising to get the perfect body. In Uncle Sam and Aunt Samantha it is stated that “women were made of finer stuff. The finer stuff was usually porcelain, decorative, and on the shelf, suitable for meals and show” (2). What this means is women are like porcelain dolls and that they don’t belong in the military, in other words they have to stay home caring for the family, cooking, doing chores like it was in the old days. For centuries women have been portrayed as the weak and submissive. They think that we as women can’t do anything by ourselves that we always need back up in everything we do.
