Barbarians: The Mongols – Video Response Paper The documentary titled Barbarians: The Mongols, explains the rise of the Mongols beginning with the mergence of Genghis Khan, chronicles their vast empire, and offers insights into their culture and background. The Mongols ruled the largest land empire in history for nearly three hundred years, which is why their pioneer style of cruel warfare still inspires military strategist today. The Mongols were the cruelest and most deviant of all the barbarians even to this day. They had strong leaders and used unique military techniques in order to dominate over neighboring civilizations. Temujin, a name meaning ironworker, was only nine years old when the tartars poisoned his father in 1175 B.C.E. His father was known as a gifted chieftain and if he had lived longer may have gone on to become the next Genghis Khan. After his father’s death, Temujin and his mother were left to die. This is when Temujin’s\ mother told him that he should seek revenge for the death of his father and of his family This event in his childhood, along with his father have been such a powerful leader, led him to grow up with a strong since mission and bitterness and with the idea that the world doesn’t work the way that it should. By the time he was 40 years old he was given the title of gifted chieftain and is now compared to Alexander the Great and Hitler because he was able to make people follow him with just his personality. In 1196, after preparing an army, he decided it was time to get revenge on the tartars for the deaths of his family. In just two years temujin is able to defeat the tartars and practically wipe them from the face of the earth. In 1206, Temujin is named universal leader, or Genghis Khan. With this title Genghis Khan is ready to conquer the rest of the world and make his reputation as the bloodiest of all barbarians.
