The Obama Presidency The Obama presidency has been the topic of many debates and discussions ever since it began in 2009. Being elected as president, Barack Obama broke the boundaries by being the first “black” president. His campaign centered on change. The Presidency of Barack Obama mishandled promised changes in economic policy and immigration reform as well as overstepped its boundaries into the lives of American citizens. One of the many promises made by Obama was to ensure that affordable health care was available to every American. Thus the implementation of “Obamacare” came into effect. “Obamacare” has been a source of controversy due to the many promises made while introducing the law. A $10 billion fund to prevent foreclosures, funding for roads and bridges etc. Many things happened during the presidency, which were outright mishandled by the Government. “Cash for clunkers” completely ruined the used car market, sky rocketing the price of used vehicles, the utter collapse of the housing market, and unemployment rates skyrocketed. The Obama jobs act of 2011 was a total disaster. It was marketed towards the citizens of the United States as a tool to “put Americans back to work” without adding “a dime to the deficit”(Epstein, 2013). This legislation is proving to be unsustainable due to it being hard to price on an annual basis (Epstein, 2013). While unemployment rates have been going down, the increase in jobs leans more towards part-time rather than full-time work (Epstein, 2013). Knee jerk reactions to current events have ultimately slowed progress of growth that has been made since the founding of our country. Religious rights have been stepped on, the labor force has weakened and the economy has taken a swift down turn and made very slow progress recovering. The current administration has passed many acts that not only hindered growth of the economy but also had a detrimental impact on the rights of citizens both native and legal immigrant. With the government bailouts, total take over of the countries health system and failed immigration policies, America has taken many hits on the integrity of the foundation the founding fathers laid out for us.
