Bush, the 43rd President of the United States, and Jeb Bush, former Governor of Florida. He is the last president to have been a World War II veteran. Until the election of his son George W. Bush to the presidency in 2000, Bush was commonly referred to simply as "George Bush"; since that time, the form "George H.W. Bush", "Bush41", or "George Bush, Sr." has come into common use as a way to distinguish the father from the son. William Jefferson "Bill" Clinton (born William Jefferson Blythe III, August 19, 1946) is the former 42nd President of the United States and served from 1993 to 2001.
His two-term presidency marked him a great politician as he balanced the budget, ended the Korean War, and signed the Civil Rights Bill of 1957, and the Federal Aid Highway Act of 1956. To achieve such success, he transformed from a martial national hero to a politician in the twentieth century. Through nearly thirty years as a prominent national figure, Eisenhower demonstrated himself a success by “good sense, good will, and perceived moral character.” This is his story. Rising from relatively ordinary origins, Dwight D. Eisenhower, the third child of the family, encouraged his business thinking in his
Similarities and Differences: T. Roosevelt vs. W. Wilson Michelle Neuman HIS204 Professor Carl Garrigus July 8, 2013 Similarities and Differences: T. Roosevelt vs. W. Wilson The election of 1912 was an election that changed the country, as 75 percent of all votes cast were for a Progressive candidate. The candidates were Theodore Roosevelt, a staunch Progressive who ran under the newly created Bull Moose Party; William Howard Taft, a Republican; and, Woodrow Wilson, a Progressive Democrat. The race was one of astounding victory for the progressive way of thinking. While there were definite parallels in the two men, the contrasts were far more striking. Even though Roosevelt and Wilson were both supportive of the progressive movement, they ran for President under two completely different parties, and this was not their only difference.
Obama had three key factors on his side. Firstly he managed to change the voting demographic for early primaries. Early primaries and caucuses such as Iowa and New Hampshire tend to favour establishment candidates, with the voters tending to be older and white. Through his use of the internet and other modern mediums, Obama was able to energise a grassroots swell of young support and was able to record as many voters under the age of 25 (as a percentage of the age group) as over 65, something unprecedented in American politics. Different observers have clashed over how this was achieved.
Since then the Fourth of July has had several peculiar recognitions. The two most distinguished men in the framing and support of the Declaration were Thomas Jefferson and John Adams -- the one having penned it and the other sustained it the most forcibly in debate -- the only two of the fifty-five who sustained it being elected President of the United States. Precisely fifty years after they put their hands to the paper it pleased Almighty God to take both from the stage of action. This was indeed an extraordinary and remarkable event in our history. Another President, five years after, was called from this stage of existence on the same day and month of the year; and now, on this last Fourth of July just passed, when we have a gigantic Rebellion, at the bottom of which is an effort to
sheina Key English 101 Professor C. Shane Essay #1 Reshaping America Barack Obama is the 44 th president of the United States, and the 1 st African American president in History, which occurred on January 20, 2009. After taking, his Presidential Oath Obama addresses the United States of America his Inaugural Speech he gives a special thanks to the former president George Bush for completing his term as president. In President Obama Inaugural Speech, his plan is to tackle the issues America is facing which are crippling the United States for growth. In his speech, he talks about the economy issues, rising cost of health care, and America is at war. President Obama acknowledged that the economic issue as one of the first things he needed to mention to the United States, “Starting today we must pick ourselves up and dust ourselves off, and begin to work on remaking America”.
The speech was approximately two minutes long, and is known as one of the greatest speeches in American History. In those two minutes Lincoln demonstrated the principles of human equality that our nation has, and explained a new form of freedom for all Americans in the U.S. Lincoln presented a form of democracy and the birth of newly unified nation. At the beginning of the Gettysburg Address Lincoln states how four score and seven years ago (1776) our continent brought forth a new nation. In this first powerful sentence Lincoln addresses the Revolutionary War and what that victory brought to our nation. The Civil War nearly ripped apart our nation and many lives were lost in the process.
Malak Abdelmelek Professor: Lewis Metzger Words: 1,104 Thomas Jefferson: Examining Some of His Achievements and Failures as a President of the United States of America 1801-1809 From 1789 until our recent days, great men were elected to be the president of the United States of America, the greatest nation on earth. Each one of them offered the best they had to their country and they had one goal in mind which was to bring the US to that place of prosperity and development. One of those men is Thomas Jefferson, the 3rd president of the US, who was elected twice to be the president, once in 1800 and the second time in 1804. Jefferson is regarded as one of the most popular and successful of the United States Presidents. He had great achievements like allowing the Alien and Sedition Acts to end with out renewal, repealing the tax that caused the Whiskey Rebellion and the Louisiana Purchase.
Due to the fact that there is a direct correlation between the candidate who spent the most money on their campaign, and the eventual winner of the election, suggests that whoever spends the most money on their campaign will ultimately become president. In 2008 Barrack Obama won the election after spending over $750million on his campaign. John McCain spent $370,000million, less than half of what Obama spent. Over $425million of Obama’s money went towards the media, when you consider the fact that McCain spent under $130 million on the media it is clear that Obama was in the public eye a lot more frequently, therefore the average voter would have been constantly hearing positivity around Obama in the newspapers and on TV, and less about McCain, meaning that they would feel more inclined to vote for him as they have a greater idea of who he is and what he is doing. This suggests why Obama won the key swing states, Ohio, Florida, Virginia and Pennsylvania.
Again Obama uses emotive language to appeal to patriotism. “an American family” and “we rise and fall together” Family is a very strong and poignant description which Obama is using to paint the image of one unit. The president mentions ‘America’ throughout the text. As this is a victory speech, the word America is a power word, and strongly emits feelings of patriotism and pride. In the third paragraph, president Obama repeats the word ‘tonight’, bringing the audience back to the present victory.
