Baglady The text is fairly short, and as we read, we can clearly identify it as a short story. The story begins in medias res, and without many details of what happened before we are given introduction to most of the characters. Among them we hear about the main character, Daphne. After the introduction there is a well written and described main plot, which bears the imprint of horror. The main person Daphne Gulver-Robinson is a married middle-aged woman. Her husband, Rollo, is one of the directors of Doolittle Wind Quietus with less power than the most of the other directors. In the story Daphne accompanies her husband on a business trip to the Far East. Daphne's partake of this trip isn't her first choice, she would rather stay at home and tend the livestock. Daphne's participation is just a move to impress Rollo's chairman. It's a part of the chairman's policy that the directors bring their wives on business errands. So we can already here make the statement, that the Gulver-Robinson couple is a couple with a fine economic status. But even though the couple's economics are fine, they are better among the other directors. Daphne knows that joining the lady's jaunt, means that she has to step into a higher and more sophisticated social environment, where it is difficult to fit in. The wives, who are living under completely different and finer social graces than Daphne, only care about appearance and social status.”She has tried to make herself attractive for this jaunt and has lost ten pounds and had her hands manicured; but now she sees the other ladies, she knows it is not enough”. Daphne is trying to obtain the other wives on the class system by using her energy to make herself attractive, instead of using it to something more important. This kind of behavior can easily arise in this world we live in, where class is more important than ability. Very
