Badminton Badminton is an indoor and outdoor sport that is mostly known as a casual game played by friends and family in the garden or on the beach. It has a fairly simple concept and is easy to learn. Badminton can be played by anyone, no matter the age or body shape. It is very safe because it is a non-contact sport, but like all sports, injuries are common. To prevent injury in badminton it is advised that you wear knee pads and wrist and ankle guards. The game is played with one player playing another or pairs competing. It is played on a court. Size of the courts being 44 feet long by 17 feet wide for one on one, and for pairs the court is 4 feet long by 20 feet wide. To play the game each player needs a racquet and one bird or shuttlecock per court. The object of the game is to hit the bird past your opponents so it lands on their side of the court. If the bird hits the net and falls over, the team that hit it gets a point. If the bird hits the net and falls on the side from which it was hit, a point is given to the opposing team. Badminton is played best of three, played to either 11 or 15 points. Games are played to 15 in doubles and men’s single, and women’s singles are played to 11. Although not very well-known professional badminton does exist. Many people stereotype the sport and say it is slow has little action but they are very wrong. Badminton is the world’s fastest racquet sport. It is an even faster racquet sport than tennis. The bird is flying around the court at speeds up to 200 miles per hour. Badminton was invented ages ago and was played in ancient Greece and Egypt. Badminton evolved from the games battledore and shuttlecock, which were both childrens games.
