Forklifts and Backhoes Lab A certain manufacturer wants to make its backhoes and forklifts last even longer and researchers may have found an additive to the hydraulic oil that expands the number of hours the machines can be used before repairs are necessary again. Management gave the researchers 20 brand new machine to be used by customers in an experiment to test whether the additive is effective. The backhoes and forklifts will be blocked into two different and separate groups of ten random experimental units in order to reduce variation. Five units from each group will be randomly chosen to receive the new additive as the oil treatment and the remaining five in each group will receive the regular oil treatment. For purpose of randomizing the backhoes and forklifts, the ten machines (from each) will be labeled 0-9. Then, a random number generator will be used to pick five different machines, therefore repeating numbers must be removed. These five machines (from each) will receive the oil with additive treatment while the rest get regular oil as a control. The response variable is the hours of machine use before repair is necessary (the number is recorded for each machine). Once all twenty machines have been brought in for repairs the data will be collected. At that time, the results in each group of either the forklifts or backhoes will be compared. Then the two groups all together will be compared against each other. If the differences
