They all have their target audience, who they have specifically designed the ad for. This is a multi billion-dollar industry and the advertisers study all the ways that they can attract the person’s attention. The premiere body scents that the AXE Company comes out with are full of sexual tenacity, which draws in men and women who see their commercials. Surely no one mentions "mating" more than marketers at Axe, the men's grooming brand whose racy advertisements promise young men that women will find them irresistible if they use their products (Newman). AXE is a body spray that is heavily advertised in today’s society.
Advertisers for beer advertisements try to make the audience feel that if they drink their product then they will be like who ever is featured in their advertisements. Simple things in ads can easily lure people into buying their product. The first Advertisement I will analyze is a Dos Equis beer ad out of Maxim magazine. I believe that this ad applies to a young to middle aged men. The man in the ad looks to be about mid fifties and he’s “the most interesting man in the world”.
In “The Merchants of Cool,” the author investigates the rising fascination with teen pop culture. Teenagers are constantly vying for attention, causing them to imitate popular celebrities. Major corporations try to capitalize off this, showing productions and advertisements to influence them further. The era of family friendly programming has no longer any place in primetime television; shows such as Dawson’s Creek and Cruel Intentions have completely infiltrated the TV schedule to reflect teens’ all-consuming fascination with sexuality. One of the major networks responsible for influencing pop culture is MTV, telling kids what’s cool.
Jack, the leader of the hunt, found the pigs, and he instructed the other hunters to kill "the largest sow of the lot. She was black and pink; and the great bladder of her belly was fringed with a row of piglets that slept or burrowed and squeaked" (Golding, 124). This was savage-like and merciless because they killed a mother. The hunters continued to show their brutality throughout the hunt by following the pig and torturing her through most of the day. "The sow staggered her way ahead of them, bleeding and mad, and the hunters followed, wedding to her in lust, excited by the long chase and the dropped blood" (Golding, 125).
They go to Jack's side of the island. They push Piggy off the side of a cliff then push a rock on him. The conch is shattered and all civilization is gone. SamandEric become part of Jack's tribe by force. Ralph is on the run because Jack's tribe is hunting him down with the intention of killing him.
Adriana Trevino Bradford ENGWR 102 March 14, 2013 Advertising Today Advertisements seem to be everywhere we look, billboards, magazines, television, and even public restrooms, but the question is are ads good or bad? After all, advertisements are made to manipulate, persuade the audience toward a product or service, or “turn the mind toward” a certain something (Wikipedia®). In our society many people are easily susceptible to the manipulation that comes with ads as well as the slightly smaller number of people who are educated and can resist the temptation. In the article “Advertising’s Fifteen Basic Appeals” Jib Fowles introduces his fifteen emotional appeals: need for sex, attention, affiliation, feeling safe, nurture, guidance, aggression, dominance, autonomy, escape, achievement, prominence, aesthetics, curiosity, and even physiological needs. With these appeals he has one crucial point, when
Twenge states, “To many older people, it’s funny. But too many younger people the main consumers of the reality shows on, say, MTV it shapes their views of the world” (pg 7). Narcissism is shown often, and without hesitation on reality TV younger viewers are being conditioned by the depiction of narcissism. Slowly, the excess amount of narcissism seems normal. For instance, on “America’s Next Top Model” young viewers wish to be thin, tall, and overall a model, but go about it in the wrong ways.
Question: How is the character of Elle represented in the film ‘Legally Blonde’? Answer: Legally Blonde is a comedy film starring Reece Witherspoon, who plays the part of a fashion merchandising major, Elle Woods. When Elle is dumped by her boyfriend, Warner, because she is not ‘serious’ enough, she decides to follow him to Harvard Law school and try and win him back. But she finds that during her absence, Warner has become engaged with fellow student, Vivian Kensington. To make things worse, she is constantly criticised by her professors and classmates.
I agree with Sheets-Johnstone’s claim that “women inspire male sexual desire simply by existing.” In the twenty first centuries, targeting western culture, women are constantly examined by men based alone on their outward appearance. A woman can be reduced to only to certain body parts such as the genitalia. This is because a woman’s appearance alone can cause a male to become aroused which naturally leads to this kind of degradation. The woman as a whole is basically forgotten. Because it is common for men to behave in this manner, it is almost routine for a woman to be appeasing to a man for approval.
In the Steve Greenhouse’s article, “Going for the Look, but Risking Discrimination”, he states “Hiring attractive people is not necessarily illegal, but discriminating on the basis of age, sex, and ethnicity is.” Big name brand companies have found a successful way to gain more customers, by hiring young and attractive college kids. Retailers find outside beauty more valuable than what is on the inside. Marshall Cohen says “A guy wants to go hang out in a store where he can see good-looking gals”, and I could not agree more. As a business owner you would want it to become very successful, some are willing to do anything to achieve that. Abercrombie and Fitch are one of them.
