August Osage County Analysis

On Thursday, September the 13th I went to go see the play “August: Osage County” at Sheldon Vexler Theatre. August: Osage County” is a comedic playwright that follows the life of the Weston family from the perspective of their home in Oklahoma. The family goes through various struggles throughout the play and the added elements from the Director’s vision help bring out the emotions coming from the actors. The components of the play really come together to help make this production unique. I believe the Director’s vision of this play was to first create a vision of the average American home to help the audience relate themselves to the setting. I think this really helped gauge the interest of the audience. One thing that I connected with was the desk that Beverley used. This desk reminded me of my father’s desk at home that he worked at when I was a young girl. Once taking a good look at the setting I also realized the way that pieces of setting were cut in half, for example, the front door was cut in half. I believe this helped the audience get a good look of the entire stage and also separate the different settings within the stage. The theatre in round stage was beneficial and helped gauge my interest in the play because I was so close that it felt as if I was in the scene. I think improvements could have been made but for it being a local play, I thought it was pretty good. The director’s vision, design of costume, scenic elements, lighting, and sound all correlated well with one another and helped create an enjoyable play. I applaud the director, actors, actresses, and the production team for doing a good job and I would recommend this play to friends and family. I hope that one day I can see a major production of August: Osage County. Thank you for giving us the opportunity to witness this
