September 22, 2013 What You Eat Is Your Business Obesity has become a huge issue in America, and fast foods are believed to be one of the leading causes, yet many Americans still love fast foods and practically live off of them. Those who deal with obesity usually see it as a problem but realized it too late, and struggle to make things rights. Many blame others or make excuses for their obesity, which is really a result of their own free will. Therefore, in some cases, others pay the consequences of those poor choices. Balko uses logos to explain that the people of America need to start taking responsibility for their own health, particularly with diet and obesity, because those are results of their own choices.
In fact, it is more so a problem than in other countries. Francine Prose tries to decipher the various reasons why obesity has grown to the forefront of problems associated with today. The author explains that society gives too much to people in terms of different variety of food. There is food around us all the time and it is very tempting not to eat it, “schools and employers might forbid the sale of junk food on campus and in offices” (Prose 212), which is hard to image that this can be done. The author suggests that society should stop giving people junk food and it can help stop obesity.
With the simple fact that food is a necessity to sustain life, clearly this movie applies to all humans, however, the pictures and words that are used appear to be targeted towards a slightly more mature audience. Furthermore, the movie includes all types of classes as well, interviewing a lower class family paying very close attention to the cost of food products. In all this film as it attacks the food industries, it opens people’s eyes to what is behind the scenes and clearly and makes people more conscious about what they eat. The film uses all three types of arguments; ethos, logos, and pathos, each adding a significant part to the message that is being conveyed. First, we are introduced to the narrator behind the film who is an investigative giving the sense of intelligence and trust in the things that he says.
