Athlete’s body and mind Healthy, well-trained body and clear mind are the most important aspects of successful athlete. Athlete has to understand that his/her body has to be trained and treated in good manners, however that’s only part of success; athlete’s mind has to be trained as well. It is fact, that a lot of athletes think of their bodies as “tools” which are used to serve as machine to achieve particular goals and which are supposed to have no feelings for emotions or pain. It is a broad understanding in athletic world that you have to go through pain if you want to be successful what a lot of coaches emphasize by a well-known phrase, “No pain, no gain”. However, there is a difference between being hurt and being injured. Athletes have to know their own bodies and have to know when they should stop and start with recovery. But as there are external and internal pressures on them they play with pain while taking painkillers and their injuries are getting worse and worse. At this point it is very important for athletes to have clear mind and good self-control. They should be thinking only of their own health and not be listening people who say that they are faking injuries or are lazy. Having clear and controlled mind in sport is crucial. Only athletes who can control their emotions, fears and anxieties during performance can win constantly and reach the top level. Because of that it is really important to have coaches who are a good psychologists as well and know how to “train” one’s mind. They have to teach athletes to be “runners” instead of being “racers”. It means that during race or match they have to control their body and feelings instead of being surprised spectator of their own body. To sum up, being a top athlete involves a lot of pleasure but also a lot of pain. Athletes have to be strong both, physically and mentally. They have to be
