At the Moulin Rouge Enilda Molina Triton College ART 112 Instructor Jessica Smith April 17, 2014 Thesis At The Moulin Rouge by Henri Marie Raymond de Toulouse-Lautrec is a Post-Impressionist masterpiece which captures not only a scene of the exotic nightlife of the famous Parisian club Moulin Rouge but also displays the accepting social circle of the artist himself who grew up as a misfit in an aristocratic family. The oil painting’s contrasting colors functions as a self-portrait of Toulouse-Lautrec and the regular patrons who frequented the club including the entertainers. The excitement and thrill of such a place is clearly displayed as well as the provocativeness and darkness of these same characters.
