It is important to work as a team with your colleagues, so that you all work to achieve the same outcomes and targets. I can find out an individual’s preferred communication methods by: asking the client, reading their care plan, ask relatives, ask colleagues, medical notes et WHY IT IS INPORTANT TO OBSERVE AN INDIVIDUAL REATION WHEN COMMUNICATING . This might be through the use of body language, facial expressions, gestures, tone of voice, touch or contact, signs, symbols, pictures, objects and other . It is very important to be able to recognise what a person’s body language is saying, especially when as a health or social care worker you are dealing with someone who is in pain, worried or upset. You must also be able to understand the messages you send with your own body when working with other people barrier to communication.
It’s our job to notice and query things like this that may help the client with their daily life. Getting to know your client is obvious but very important as you will be able to notice if they seem quiet, tearful, or withdrawn as a regular thing and know if this is normal behaviour or not, and be able to report to someone in charge of any changes you may notice that may be affecting health or quality of life in general. Obviously asking questions of your client is where you would start to try and find out what, if anything, was wrong. In a care setting it’s not always possible for our clients to be able to verbalise their needs or even sustain a conversation in what most people would consider to be a normal manner. It is therefore of paramount importance for a care worker to be able to recognise non verbal signals, facial expressions or ask the type of question that may simply require a yes or no answer or a nod or shake of the head dependant on the clients ability to move or speak.
You will need the ability to communicate with a Service User in order to support their needs effectively. 3.4 Identify sources of information and support or services to enable more effective communication. You can get information and support from your supervisor, line manager, mentor, senior and experienced colleagues. The service user’s relatives can provide you with effective ways to communicate and so can specialist practitioners e.g. speech and language therapists.

Good communication can also lead to them being willing to confide any problems or concerns that they may have and highlight any potential problems that could be developing or have already developed. Good communication between colleagues can enable a better work environment, carers know what has been done and needs to be done making the following shift able to give continuity of care. It is important to observe the reactions of an individual as body language can often tell us more than the verbal communication and show us how an individual is feeling.
We have to prioritize the treatment for the patient according to his or her condition. When we work under the hospital’s policies and protocols, it helps health care personnel to stay within their professional boundary and prevent from potential risks. During patient care; after we obtain information about critical situations, which we have to respond to it very quickly, and cautiously. Every second is important for the best outcome of the patient during critical situations. Sometimes, it is very difficult to deal with some situations, but we can always get help, support, and guidance from our coworkers and superior health people.
