Kennedy, the youngest president of the United Sates of America addressed the nation and world in his inaugural address, after a challenging election and precarious period in which our country was enduring. With issues such as the Cold War and the cruel inequality issues our county was facing the success of his speech was imperative. In this thoughtful, well worded speech he challenged, inspired and provoked Americans to become passionate about their country stating, “ask not what your country can do for you-ask what you can do for your country.” (Kennedy) The words chosen for the address were well thought out, planned words, which were carefully placed and spoken beautifully. In his inaugural address Kennedy argues that new times are on the horizon for the United States and gives examples on how to unite the country and world. At the beginning of the inaugural address Kennedy begins with a strong and reassuring statement “We observe today not a victory of party, but a celebration of freedom-symbolizing an end, as well as a beginning-signifying renewal, as well as change.” (Kennedy) This statement demonstrates humility by removing his personal gain and turning it into a victory for the American people.

Checkers Essay Richard Nixon gave this speech in an attempt to convince the American people that he should remain on the Republican ticket as the Vice Presidential candidate. At the time, he was the target of a smear campaign over the 18,000 dollars that he received. This was the first speech in which an American politician did not deny the claim against him or just completely ignore it. The speech did a good job of explaining Nixon’s argument as well as providing the American people with evidence of his position. Richard Nixon is a credible writer because he writes facts about himself and others that can be verified.

A rhetorical question is a question that is asked in order to make a point, it is asked merely for effect with no answer expected (Merriam-Webster, 2011). The Rhetorical question that JFK asks in his inaugural speech was: “Can we forge against these enemies a grand and global alliance, North and South, East and west, that can assure a more fruitful life for all mankind? Stepping into a battle field for your people’s rights, felt rather brainwashing than being committed towards your actions. I just never figured why South Vietnam never understood that communism was the best way to fit Vietnam’s strength.
