Riley Jacobs Mr. Griffin Period 2 1 November 2012 There are many benefits and also many consequences of having a two-party political system in the United States. The many benefits that are seen by having a two-party political system are political stability, and also it makes for an easy voting process and more accurate voting process. It creates political stability because even though the democratic and republican parties disagree on many things, they share many of the big political ideas that will not change throughout the history and an agreement of the legislators will occur. Also it makes for an easy voting process because most Americans will vote for one or the other so if they disagree with one candidates policy then they can vote for the other. If there were to be multiple party system then everyone would have to take into account each of their ideas and would possible create difficulty to vote which would cause people to not vote. The benefit of having a multiparty system is that you have more variations in what candidates you can vote on, and what their views on political issues are. A multi-party system would create more transparency throughout the voting process and also it will possibly encourage voter participation because many situations where people refuse to vote is because they do not agree with the two major political party but with a third party system they can have their ideas represented nationally. The consequences of having a multi-party system consist of are limited because it gives more opportunities for people to vote for who they want but say the winner of the election receives plurality of votes and gets 34% of the vote, it leaves 2/3 of the rest of the population
