Conscripted peasants had begun to lose interest, and their welfare was harmed with the conscription of animals, meaning beasts of burden and the like were deposed to military use. Most of the officers had bought their positions for reasons of prestige and glory, meaning that they were inexperienced and not fit to lead armies into war. He, despite the warnings of his advisors, joined the front ranks. Nicholas believed he was doing the right thing, rather than realizing the incompetence of his own aggressive nationalism. This led to Russia being in the control of the German Alexandria, who was hated by the Russian people because of her inability to speak Russian, her reliance on Grigory Rasputin, a mystic who claimed to heal her son, her antisocial, depressed attitude and a general political incompetence to rival Nicholas’s.
Source G suggests that the monasteries wrongly abused their influential power over the common folk, gaining money from the supposed religious relics they claimed to be in ownership of. Items such as ‘God’s coat, Our Lady’s smock’ and ‘part of God’s supper,’ this implies corruption because deception was being used against the ordinary worshippers. Source G also suggests that corruption was held amongst monks, telling us of their illegitimate children under their supposed life of celibacy and the holy fathers inability to life such a life ‘The Pope, considering this holy father’s weakness, has given him license to keep a whore.’ Source G is a report given by Richard Layton to Cromwell in 1535, providing Cromwell with ammunition for the Valor Ecclesiasticus. Source H is similar to Source G suggesting that there was corruption in the monasteries, stating that the monasteries live in ‘Manifest sin, vicious, carnal and abominable living.’ The source also states that such doing is on the increase ‘their vicious living shamelessly increases’ suggesting that the only way in order to stop such doings, was to dissolve the monasteries. Source H confirms the points made in Source G, suggesting corruption was at the heart of royal motives for dissolution.
Whatever the cause of the fallen Empire of Rome, many people have been comparing it to the recent decline of the US on the world stage, which also has many of its own causes. One reasonable cause of the Roman Empire is its military/army. Many people say that the army got out of hand due to lowering of standards of discipline. When the disciplinary standards of the army began to decline, so did the empire. The reason for this is because the army couldn’t defend the empire.
Assess the impact of the Emperor Tiberius on the Principate The impact that the Emperor Tiberius had on the principate was contested by both the ancient and modern historians through time. Ancient historians mostly comprised detested Tiberius as it was their obligation to expose the evils of the principate under the Julio-Claudians and portray its degeneration into tyranny. His flaws are highlighted by the end of his reign particularly caused by his enigmatic personality, deteriorating relationship with the senate, influence of Sejanus and the repercussions of the treason trials. Whilst modern sources illustrate him from a more positive perspective pointing out his good intentions, effectively administrating the state, vastly improving
In my opinion I think live cattle export should stop, it is just a bad image for Indonesia. One of the three supported arguments in this issue being mentioned and brought up is that the Indonesia’s poor cannot even afford
They were not happy with the change in government; therefore, they fought back. The westernization of India was immediately followed with battles. The Battle of Plassey lead by Nabob rulers against the British was India’s attempt to fight back the Europeans from colonizing their land. Unfortunately, the Indian’s futile attempts to keep out the British failed. They lost the battle, and Britain’s rule over India strengthened.
Because the old ruling house of the Hapsburgs had acquired so much land, the people were diverse and not unified. The Hapsburgs did not acknowledge liberal ideas and banned the talk of them. They also disregarded nationalist thoughts. This only increased the Empires weakness and when the new Ruler Francis Joseph came into power he attempted to fix it, but he neglected the majority of his Empire only granting reforms for the Austrians. Due to discontent and rebels The Hapsburg Empire was separated and the Hungarians gained their own state.
What gave this family such a competitive edge? The collapse of the Roman Empire was an important turning point in history. The Western part of the Roman Empire was not as rich, and as organized as the Eastern half of the Roman Empire. The “Western Emperors were less competent then their eastern colleagues.” (Pg: 26). The Economy of the Western Empire was also very weak.
With the lack of soldiers, it would be easier to invade Rome, which could’ve led to the decline of the Empire. This proves that internal decay was one of the major causes for the end of Rome. Document 6 shows the invasions of Barbarians in 476 on the Roman Empire. This demonstrates that the government and military were becoming weaker to the point where they weren’t strong enough to protect the empire from invasions. The government could not control all these invasions, so this was another component that helped the fall of the Roman Empire.
Years later, the two friends stumbled upon a Buddhist region and met the “Illustrious One” or, Gotama. While Govinda joined the Buddha, Siddhartha found flaws in Gotama’s teachings and was not ensnared in their peace, so, he left for his own journey all alone in the wilderness. In the woods, Siddhartha comes to terms with himself, “I will no longer try to escape Siddhartha…I will learn from myself the secret of Siddhartha (pg. 38-39).” He feels as if he is born again in the woods, and, as Karma would have it, he saw the world for the first time. He stumbles upon a village and meets the beautiful Kamala.
