The way technology has driven the last half of a century has changed life astronomically. Everyday people crave and desire the next big thing on the market. Whether it is the hybrid car or touch screen phone, the need for something more leaves room in life for unhappiness when those items are not obtained. Lao-Tzu strongly argued that when people do not want anything, they are okay with living simple. This is beyond the truth of today.
If technology continues to develop at this rate, people will slowly begin to depend on it just as much as Mildred did. People nowadays forget about the conventional things in life and allow themselves to be consumed by a world of technology. People have now begun to rely on technology such as portable devices for entertainment. This increase in use of technology will cause more people to stop reading for fun and begin experimenting with these new gadgets. Even though these devices come with many ways to read, most people do not use this to their advantage.
What specific strategies would you recommend, and how would you promote them at Premier? I think that the primary issue with work/life balance at Premier Publishing is the ability to have a more flexible work schedule and to work from home. Every former Cybooks employee that we have heard from has had the same concern. This gives them a negative image of Premier because they think that the company does not trust its employees. Premier needs to realize that by moving into the technology segment, they are acquiring a new breed of employees, how crave the ability to have creative freedom, which means that they need to be able to work at the times that are most suitable for them.
By using a combination of his personal experience and his own research he surprisingly notices that there are more and more people pay not for the comfort but for the lack of the internet access and other sources of information. As a result, considerably more individuals will prefer hotels without TV in their room, which will cause a noticeable increase in supply of such convenience. According to the author, our generation has managed to go from a tumultuous enthusiasm about the various devices that save time and greatly extends, to the desire to get rid of them - often in order to return back to the time currently. The more there is to stay in touch, the more of us want to be "out of range". Like teenagers, we first knew nothing about the world, and suddenly found out too much overnight.
Response to Digital Natives, Digital Immigrants After reading this essay, I agree with Mr. Prensky that America’s youth is constantly leaning towards the uniformity of digital technology in society today. Each generation is becoming more dependent on technology than the last, consequently forcing them to subconsciously lose their ability to obtain information through books and other tangible resources. As human beings, when one of our five senses are weakened or lost, the remaining gets stronger. Therefore, in the same concept, when one sense is heightened another is weakened. My schedule doesn’t allow for a lot of give, so everything I do is with purpose and on time. I forget that not everyone has the same regimen and need to be so time conscience. I am also not good at adapting to change, which is a critical skill I need to work on. In being with the same company for so long, we have seen our fair share of change, and I do eventually come around, but I think I could do it faster and better if I were more flexible and adaptive when I first become aware of changes on the way. Sometimes we learn of change the day of, via email, and it definitely throws me for a loop.
There was only a simple law, and that was to not read books as well as think, making “the mind drink less and less.” This doesn’t seem much of a sacrifice because society was filled with far more excitement than literature could offer. Meanwhile, new technology helped people do everyday chores and made life simpler, leaving more time for fun. Like Beatty said, “Life is immediate, the job counts, and pleasure lies all about after work.” Entertainment ruled their society. The parlor walls seem like a god compared to our TVs. The seashell radios are convenience at its best.

However, due to the people’s constant voracious nature, this movement also surfaces their unsettling desire for higher-standard luxury. This progression continues until the technology becomes an essential in their lives that it is a need rather than a luxury. However, by the time that human realize their dependence on machines is no longer a choice, it has entangled with technology to a coexisting degree.
The simpler the work gets with technology, the more we get dependent on it. In todays’ society, we could not find one single young child without using the available technology to him/her advantage/disadvantage. Technology made us dependent on it and we can't expect or imagine a life without using or even saying the word "technology". In the past, one could support their family without a college education and still have the means to live comfortably. However that is not the case anymore. In today’s society all of the high paying jobs require and demand college experience. These jobs that are at the high paying end of the spectrum have changed their basic requirements because of technology rapidly increasing day by day, getting more complicated and difficult-which makes them want to make sure that their employees are properly trained. This however, does not sit well with people who are becoming unemployed or who have seniority at their current jobs.
