This concept is derived from strategies implemented in the corporate business sector. These strategies outline methodology for managing an organization through the process of walking around and being visible. The article highlights companies like Hewlett Packard where adoption of management by walking around is a significant part of the Hewlett Packard Way. This article identifies a checklist for implementation of behavior management by walking around. This checklist includes ideas such as, interacting on informal basis, meeting employees on their turf, asking what rumors they have heard lately, building bridges with employees you are most uncomfortable with, having lunch with them, speaking daily, developing a schedule to make rounds daily, having no favorites and interacting personally. The article then goes on to discuss how Management by Walking Around can be adapted and changed to Behavior Management by Walking Around for Educators. In that adaption, teachers should find themselves complaining about administrators not being in the office as a result of interaction with students. Emphasis is placed on the fact that first meetings for administrators and students should not be in an office as a result of a discipline referral.
