NEVER STOP TRYING It was march 18 1976, there was loud gun fire from far away that sounded like thunder. You could hear the screams of the men in pain as they lay in the grass. We couldn’t anybody that was shooting at us but the men around me were dropping like flies. We didn’t stand a chance against our own army. They had turned on us and waited on top of a ridge that’s when everything went black. When I woke up there was nobody alive. I was the only one left. March 19 1976 I was flown back to the states in a C130. On our way there we hit a little snag. The army was shooting at the plane. Me and the other survivor’s I found on the way to the pickup point. Now I am 36 am half to use prosthetics legs to walk. I still remembered that day like it was yesterday. Some time’s haunts me and some days it opens new doors for me. Now I take my life one step at a time and I thank god for letting me live. I treat life like it’s my last day on earth every day because any day could be your last. My kids still ask me what happened but I will never tell them. There are still to young to know what happened. I still want to be in the army to show every one I have what it takes to survive like them. They tried to get me to take a desk job. I told them I would die fighting for my country before I gave up on my country. Supporting my country is the most important job to me. So I can keep my kids and my family and my friends and they know I will never give up in till I come back in a box. Now I am one of the most decorated marine for my bravery, honor, and dedication to the marines. I earned a purple heart for being injured in the war and now I am a drill Sargent and when a recruit says doing a push up is hard I jump down and show them how a real man does
