Communicating Change Organizational Management August 9, 2014 The most commonly used cliché “the only thing in life that is constant is change” still holds to be true. In fact, in today’s ever-changing world, the only thing that is certain is change. In looking at the importance of change within society as a whole, it is imperative that both leaders and non-leaders understand the significances it plays. Hence, when change is met with resistance it creates a hindrance that disrupts the flow of an organization. To combat the issue of change resistances, leaders can look to learn how to manage change. In managing change, one should look at the factors that play key roles in the resistance, factors such as, attitudes, organizational design and individual differences. Introduction As in the case of The Army Crew Team, we find some of the similarities that revealed a mismanaged crew team. According to information provided, the crew team located at West Point Military School; comprise of sixteen members, eight varsity members and eight junior varsity members. Coach P. the crew coach had coached at West Point for nine years. While the retreat that the team takes every year was located in Atlanta, the actual practices take place on the Hudson River. During the Atlanta retreat, we gain valuable information regarding both the varsity and junior varsity teams. It is here we find how Coach P, placed them through numerous workouts to distinguish the cream of the crop. Problem In regards to the Army Crew Team, numerous problems plagued the team and coach. These problems ranged from lack of performance, low motivation, interpersonal conflict amongst members, and organizational design.
