They only have four days to find it before the valley where it is buried becomes flooded to be a Lake. While trying to find the treasure, the three escapees go through an interesting series of events. Everett’s main concern is getting back to his wife and seven daughters with the help of his two accomplices, Pete and Delmar.

A flashback in the story reveals that a Union soldier disguised as a Confederate soldier lures Farquhar to demolish the bridge, but Farquhar is caught in the act. When Farquhar is hanged, the rope breaks, he escaped, and runs home to his beautiful wife and children. At the end, it is revealed that Farquhar never escaped and imagined everything between falling off the bridge and his last breath. Farquhar imagined a several hour event in a matter of seconds. How can someone visualize a non-realistic event in such a short period of time?
The two kidnapers decide to hide the kid in a little mountain about two miles from Summit. It was covered with cedar trees. They drive a horse and carriage past old Dorset house. After kidnapping the kid, they took him up to the cave. There are four characters in this story: Sam, Bill, Johnny as knows as Red Chief, and Ebenezer Dorset.

They only knew one man that had a chance to rescue these men and so they called him in. This man drove to the site in his pajamas and safety hood and ran into the tunnels to save as many men as he could.

While Miles is sleeping he gets kidnapped by the “weekend warriors”. They tie him up, and dump him into the lake. The Colonel is furious with the kidnappers and is planning to seek revenge soon... Beowulf and his men spend a night in the hall, awaiting Grendel’s attack. When he shows up, Grendel manages to kill one of Beowulf’s own men before Beowulf grips onto his arm and eventually rips it from his shoulder. Grendel flees back to his home in the forest, where he dies from the wound. The next day, Beowulf, his men, and the Danes celebrate the victory, lavishing gifts and treasures on Beowulf and his valiant men. The next night, however, Grendel’s mother comes to Heorot to avenge her son’s death.
On his way home, he is chased by Headless Horseman. Near the bridge, Ichabod noticed the horseman hurl his head at him. Next morning, Gunpowder is found at his master’s house without Ichabod. As he was school teacher, his absence was promptly noticed. Later on, after some investigation, people believed that he is taken by Headless Horseman.
