This devastation affects a majority of the U.S. being one of our largest sources of fresh water, and will only continue to deplete, as companies carelessly dump their waste into the lake. Consumption of fish from this lake will soon be obsolete if immediate action is not taken. These are all things that need to be considered by industrial businesses, families, merchants, fishermen, and environmentalists. As long as the waters are polluted the economy will experience great loss, and may even see jobs created by the Great Lake, eventually
STAKEHOLDERS For this assignment I will identify and explain the external factors that affect two contrasting businesses which are McDonalds and NHS. TASK 1 - POLICITCAL FACTORS Political Political factors are the changes that take within the government and that’s how it affects businesses. The stability of the government can hugely affect businesses or what type of government is ruling, their ideas such dictatorship, capitalism and others. The economic and trade policy makes it difficult for businesses. Credit crunch and recession are great examples of external factors influencing the business.
The first couple of years were not easy for the settlers. The question is Why did so many colonist die? To start off with, one of the problems they faced was environmental problems. Many of Jamestown’s colonist died because of brackish water which was some salty water due to the mixture of fresh and salt water, because of the tides that would happen twice daily. Also, they would dump their human waste into the water and make it even more contaminated so when the people of Jamestown would drink or use the water it would make them ill and even to the point that they died.
Each of these compounds is known to be poisonous, cancerous, or cause birth defects. The EPA fears that the drinking water will compromised due to runoff of the surface water discharge. Additionally, contamination of underground sources of drinking water and inadequate treatment of the waste water are possible. The threat of contaminated water supplies can cause a fearful population, largely due to the propaganda spread by anti-fracking initiatives. Although there are potential economical disadvantages to fracking, there are also enormous positives.
As the reliable water sources shrank and they were forced to drink the contaminated water. This may have also spread diseases throughout the Colony. The results being more deaths, because of the water sources being contaminated by filth from the colonists. [Doc.B] Shows that there was a large time of drought from 1606-1612.This likely affected the growth of crops. The result was deaths most likely caused by lack of food.
Many of the aquatic invertebrates are responsible for keeping the ecosystem clean by feeding on litters. Extinction of theses invertebrates would totally disrupt the balance of the ecosystem. The aim of this study is to bring awareness about the harmful impact global warming has on the local aquatic invertebrates and on the ecosystem at a global scale. The hypothesis for this study is that the biotic diversity of the slow moving water and fast moving water are driven by abiotic factors. To support this hypothesis, three predictions were made.
One con is that there will be many jobs at the mine, but just not nearly as many jobs that Bristol Bay employs in the salmon industry. Another, and possibly the biggest, disadvantage of building the Pebble Mine is the negative effect on the environment in Bristol Bay. Although the company managing this says that there will be a bad affect on the environment, history tells us otherwise. We can look at the Mount Polley gold mine disaster. In this environmental disaster, 10 cubic meters of water and 4.5 million cubic meters of potentially toxic slurry were spilled into virtually untouched forest, lakes and rivers.
This would be terrible for the people and creatures that rely on this mighty river to live. Dams, diversions and evaporation losses from reservoirs also contribute to the lessening of water available from the river, causing ecological consequences to wildlife living in and along the river. The Colorado River used to carry up to 85 to 100 million tons of silt or sediment to the Gulf of California where it deposited into the sea. The sediment helped things along the river path grow and flourish. Over the years, the silt has been collecting in Lake Mead, the nation’s largest reservoir, and it is predicted that over the next few hundred years this lake will fill up with silt.
Firstly, the Everglades are an important ecosystem which reduces flooding and replenish aquifers but human actions are having a huge impact on the landscape. The rapid urban and agricultural development in the area has decreased the size of the wetlands dramatically which affects the organisms found there. This is especially important as it is home to several endangered species. Not only that, but invasive species that threaten existing wildlife by preying on or competing with them. According to Everglades.org, they’ve “contributed to nearly 70 percent of extinctions in the United States” and are the “primary cause of species endangerment.” The water itself is a major cause of decline to the area, firstly because of poor water management leading to water levels being too low or too high at the wrong times has caused a decline in many species.
To do that, they diverted ¼ of the Athabasca River towards their mines. With all that water coming in, the excess water is used for tailing ponds; these ponds are where the toxic waste is dumped. Unfortunately, birds are unable to tell the difference between real ponds and these toxic ponds. So when these birds enter these ponds, they die a preventable death. The second huge impact the Alberta Tar Sands has is on the people.
