Dam Removal restores ugly America to America the Beautiful The damming of rivers has been around since the Roman Empire. We see that the dams’ spring up more frequently making impassable waterways passable. Although we see the waterways become passable, it comes with a cost, and that cost is the destruction of the ecosystem. With the destruction of one ecosystem, comes the destruction of the rest of society because each part of society depends on one another. Ample amounts of scientific studies have concluded that, dams cause a dead river and scab the land downstream of the river and upstream of the river, and the river gets contaminated easier because of all the sediment buildup (EPA). This is where the predicament starts because on one side the utility bill will be lowered, and on the other side we see that there is a destruction of humanity that will eventually cost outrageous amounts of money to repair. As seemingly like always, the American society chooses wrong by building dams to have life easier and cheaper for themselves; while, their children and grand children have to deal with the wrong choices the that ancestors made. With the removal of dams, the cost spent on repairing these ticking time bombs will be beneficial on many different aspects of life. There are beneficial aspects of life we see this category broken down into several categories. The first category is the legal issues dealing with dams. Secondly, we see how dams impair the local ecosystem. The issues associated with dams by means of pollutants in the river, the upstream and downstream affects of the dam, and the air quality. With this affected region we see that there is a huge monetary affect on the community and the costs and trends of dam removal are dependent on the economy. Dams are nothing more than a catch 22.
