On 31 December 2007, Stephen Conroy announced the Federal Government's intention to introduce an ISP-based filter to censor "inappropriate material" from the Internet (mainly child abuse and terrorism). In this announcement he also stated that adults could opt out of the filter to receive an uncensored internet. The filter itself is flawed, so is met with strong opposition. Banning illegal content like child abuse and terrorism is inarguably a good thing. I welcome it.
New generation likes to use social media as self advertisement and sometime they share very personal information. By doing this, their future privacy fells endanger and can affect badly in their mind in future which is not a good thing for the society, widely for the nation. Also, social media is hurting our society by spreading misinformation faster than any other media. Author Amanda Thomas shows a statistics in the
shows, vitiates the purity and innocence of young minds. On the internet, children under the age of 18 can enter adult websites; such as Xtube, Fakku, and Redtube. Sure they ask for the age when you first enter the site, but lying is always possible. Though many people argue that it’s up to the kids to decide what they want to watch the rated contents or not, but if there is no internet then the kids wouldn’t even be watching it in the first place. Maybe adult pornography sites don’t apply to every single kid, but how about the violent, gory, and explicit video games that elementary school children play?
After doing some research on this topic, I have concluded that the internet should not be censored in order to protect our first amendment rights. I will give my reasons that support my belief that the internet should not be censored here along with some information from other sources that back up my beliefs as well. It’s true that the internet is infested with many indecent pornographic websites that our children are at risk of discovering, however, there are ways that parents are able to protect their children from visiting or viewing these websites by setting up parental controls as well as using features such as Google’s Safe Search option. Another way that parents can protect their children is to sit with their child while the child uses the internet and directly supervise the child's actions online. I believe that parents should be allowed the option of censoring their own personal computer from viewing websites with X rated content without having the internet censored as a whole.
The reason that I feel that random drug testing in schools is important is because there are drugs everywhere and can easily be found. The main reason that many teens start using drugs is because of peer pressure and they feel that's there way of being accepted. The reason drug testing would help schools is because now the parents these students will be able to know if there child is possibly doing any drugs and can help prevent them from further use. The schools can also provide counseling for these students which can benefit a safe and private way to stop using drugs. Many students would probably resent the fact of talking a drug test so, I feel that two random drug test during the school year would let the school know if they are doing drugs and by the second drug test if they have chosen to keep doing drugs. And since most schools test only students who do something more than just show up for class—like join an after-school club, or play a sport—kids can avoid the activities rather than quit drugs. Drugs in school are a very big issue because schools are a drug free environment.
It was tragic, but there are far worse things going on in the world right now. Consumers should know that economic boycotts can be effective when directed toward media excess. Educators and parents, through PTA's and religious groups can become more active in instituting formal programs of media education that help get young people to think more critically about their media choices. We will never be able to fully understand why this happened in Littleton, Colorado but certain facts about how the media operate and what the media now regularly invite us to be witness to are worthy of
" Internet censorship should be imposed for the good of everyone." Do you agree? Support your stand with convincing arguments Internet censorship is very common in this modern society. It is a highly divisive issue. In this modern society, almost all information can be found in the internet and it is easily accessible; therefore, some of the things in the internet may be censored to the user.
Many people would disagree with this argument. Others would say that children at the age of thirteen know right from wrong and when committing a crime they should be tried as adults. That is not completely true. I believe children should not be tried as adults. Scientific reaserch showa that children are influenced by their environmental surroundings that may adversely affect ta child and the way they view different situations.
Although censorship is needed with issues concerning children, majority of censorship is a violation of our rights because what one person may find offensive and obscene does not necessarily represent that all citizens. The freedom to read is essential to the democratic way of life. But today, that freedom is under attack. The government is working to remove both books and periodicals from sale, to exclude certain books from public schools, to censor and silence magazines and newspapers, and to limit "controversial" books and periodicals to the general public. The overthrow of reading materials is defeat of creative thought.
Across the vast digital world that is the Internet, children and adults can access any type of content they want with ease. We live in a world where young adolescents and children are venturing into the digital world with ambitions and hopes of seeking and finding illicit material, material that is shaping the minds of the male sex across the world. It is estimated that up to 90% of children between the ages of 12 and 18 have access to the Internet. Young people in this age bracket are not only being exposed to but they are choosing to expose themselves to digital pornography. Such exposure to illicit material such as porn has negative effects on the sexual development of children and young adults.
