However, things did not go so well for Casey in Chicago at first. He got fired from a lingerie salesman job in 1970, and bought a typewriter hoping to get a job as an advertising copywriter (Chicago Public Library 1). In 1970, Warren Casey met Jim Jacobs and they began writing Grease (Chicago Public Library 1). Along with Casey’s work at the Chicago Guild, he was involved with other Chicago theaters and projects (Chicago Public Library 1). Acting was also a part of his career.
Shirky starts by revealing the case about how our new technology has enabled amateurs to make a large number of average grade information and products, lowering our levels of what is considered acceptable. Shirky then provides horrid predictions of the future caused by the collapse of culture. He adds that these fears are actually true and have been around for a long period of time, proving this claim through historical references of the Guttenberg’s press and the Protestant reformation. Shirky shifts to focus on the importance of the innovations that occur after: the new norms are increasingly made the “intellectual output” of society. In the article Shirky establishes the point that we are now going through a similar growth in our publishing capability as we had in our past.

An enormous factor that plays into the number of viewers for The Super Bowl is the commercials; they are often very entertaining and usually funny. However, these endorsements are often very sexist and filled with logic fallacies. According to Merriam-Webster Online, sexism is “prejudice or discrimination based on sex” or “behavior, conditions, or attitudes that foster stereotypes of social roles based on sex.” These “sexual connotations” (Nilsen 36; 15) are shown throughout commercials year-round, but during the Super Bowl they are especially prevalent. Sexism is often shown through language. In the article “Sexism in English: Embodiment and Language,” Nilsen observes, “Going back to what I learned from my dictionary cards, I was surprised to realize how many pairs of words we have in which the feminine word has acquired sexual connotations while the masculine word
Summary of why evolution should be taught in public schools In her essay “Why evolution should be taught in public schools”, Laura H. Kahn argues imperative concern on why evolution should be taught in public school. She argues that our children, our future scientist and world’s leading healthcare frontiers, needs to receive a good science education to further enhance human understanding. Without scientific based education and understanding of evolution, it would be infeasible to understand and research and treat for various biological and medical diseases, antibiotic resistant bacteria, emerging viruses and deadly microbes. Kahn also explained the long history of human kind on battle of disbeliefs between evolution theory (belief of evolving biologically) and creationism (spontaneous generation from deity), which began in nineteenth century between scientists, who were known as the leading scientist at the time. Felix-Archimede Pouchet, believed in spontaneous generation and published 700 page book which claimed to prove that the life could originate from inanimate matter, thus life from deity.
Ray Bradbury and Kurt Wimmer demonstrate the overpowering themes of censorship and utopian societies gone corrupt, in a convincing manor. In the film and book, many of the characters go through the same emotional journeys due to their restrictive societies and censorship, which are the main themes. The settings in these literary works are also very similar. After thoroughly reading this novel and watching this movie, it is quite clear that utopian societies lead to destruction. Censorship often leads to rebellion, as it had in Fahrenheit 451 and Equilibrium.
BUG BUILDING LAB - You and your partners will begin the "Bug Building" Lab on p. 76-77 Imagine that you are a designer for a toy company that makes toy alien bugs. The president of Bug Builders, Inc., wants new versions of the wildly popular Space Bugs, but he wants to use the bug parts that are already in the warehouse. It’s your job to come up with a new bug design. You have studied how traits are passed from one generation to another. You will use this knowledge to come up with new combinations of traits and assemble bug parts in new ways.
Name:_________________________________________________________________ Period:______ Natural Selection Bunny Simulation http://phet.colorado.edu/en/simulation/natural‐selection Adapted from the HHS Biology Team Feb, 2012. Background Information: In the mid 1800’s a scientist named Charles Darwin discovered and developed a mechanism for evolution that he called natural selection. Natural selection simply stated that within any population with variation there would be a struggle for existence that would ultimately lead to the survival of the fittest. Darwin then went on to say that those traits that were the most fit would be passed on to the next generation more frequently. This continual selection for certain traits and against others over
Amusing the Million Defying the traditional Victorian way of life, Coney Island, at the turn of the century, had a profound consequences on the societal norms. The contrast between the atmosphere in Coney Island and the outside everyday life was immense. At the beginning of the twentieth century, Coney Island served at a catalyst for a radical change in the public frame of mind by vigorously shaking the old norms. The rigidity of the Victorian era was interrupted by a looser and energy full ambiance. The deviation that Coney Island caused from the genteel culture, especially in the strictness in gender roles, was fundamental in the major changes that occurred in the twentieth century.
Gene flow help human to exist for millions years, it used to help human lived in harsh environment and evolution. There are three examples shown below to explain how gene flow works and changed our body. Firstly, I would like to mainly talk about the convergent and divergent of human body hair. Darwin suggested that hairlessness was favored when men and women were picking sexual partners (Wade 24). Therefore, the proportion with less body hair attracted much mate, consequently, they would have more opportunities have descendants which have less body hair.
