Fashion photography, what you need to know. There is a contradiction in fashion photography: In theory, its purpose the same as that of a catalogue: to depict the clothes and help to sell them. In practice however, fashion photography has been used as a vehicle for self-expression by some of the world's greatest photographers. That said though the fashion industry wants a certain type of photo that may make u feel like they are pushing your artistic side out of the way to make room for what “They” want not what “You” want out of the photos. Fashion is an evolving subject.
From hairstyles to body shape to shoes on our feet, advertising tries to persuade us that to look our best, we must have the body that society now considers ideal. Society makes people believe that everyone needs to be thin, have nice hair, skin, and nails. The fashion industry, especially, puts a false image of what is perfect. The media manipulates people into thinking that “skinny” is what is acceptable in society. Too many put themselves down everyday about their weight and looks because the media puts such an emphasis on “so called perfection.” Media has a huge influence on society today, especially on teens.
Women are set such a high standards when it comes to society’s expectations because “average” just doesn’t cut it. Most women these days are expected to look, dress and act a certain way that they normally wouldn’t intend on doing. Women feel pressured on trying to dress more feminine, as they feel, based on society’s expectations, that this is the only way men will feel more sexually attracted to them. Also another reason is that most women also try competing against other women just too simply get more attention. Partially in saying that, women mostly feel the need to make themselves look good because they themselves see them only being attracted to the good looking guys and the only way they think of trying to do this, is by using their looks as a part of attracting the opposite gender.
People go through frequent phase changes which normally involve a change in attire and a thorough change in that of an overall physical appearance as well. The type of clothes, the hair style, the makeup, all contribute to the image of how a person wants to be portrayed by the public. The image change can result in a change of popularity, which can either positively or negatively impact ones public recognition. Public recognition tends to be based on an individual’s actions rather than of their physical image. The way one talks, the attitude one carries, the level of confidence they hold, the attention one tries to gain, and the respect one has, is all collected to create a reputation of who that person is.
This standard of a certain preferable size is a media creation from the fashion industry to sell items and make money. A large percentage of women become consumed in the latest trends, fashion tips, styles that they lose track to what is really important in attracting a man. A man that has not been brainwashed into this accepted ego that he has to have a certain women that meets this

Although discrimination is unlawful and illegal many companies ignore the laws and often make their hiring decisions by sex-discrimination. Many people really don’t realize how important this term actually is to the right of equality until they become a victim themselves. The definition of sex stereotyping is requiring a person to act or dress a certain way based on his or her gender.
Advertising media adversely impacts women's body image, which can lead to unhealthy behavior as women and girls strive for the ultra-thin body idealized by the media. Advertising images have also set unrealistic ideals for males, and men and boys are beginning to risk their health to achieve the well-built media standard. “The Empire of Images in Our World of Bodies,” Susan Bordo seeks to disrupt the unrelenting invasion of unhealthy and unrealistic beauty standards that hold sway in a media driven society. By using real life examples like how Susan Sarandon looks younger today than she did twenty years ago and how little girls are “vamping up”, Bordo emphasizes how the media saturates our environment with Hollywood standards of female beauty that dictate personal identity. Bordo demonstrates that women of all ages are strongly affected by the media; as such, women may feel pressure to attain and maintain a thin youthful figure and may endure surgical and cosmetic procedures or starvation to obtain it.

Throughout my Design Process I will attempt to explore the fashion world, in the way I view it and how I think others view it. I will explore in different sorts of settings how what people wear reflects on themselves as well as the clothing they wear shows different movements. My Inspirations is drawn from people like David Downton who is a fashion illustrator. His work uses a lot of tone and colour using paint (gauche) which is gives us a strong image.
