Negative effects of watching television. Argumentative Essay Watching television has become a standard activity for most families. Although there are many excellent programs, many people think television is one of the worst inventions of modern times. People use television to relax and to forget about their daily troubles. However, what started out decades ago as an exciting, new type of family entertainment is currently being blamed as one of the key contributions to health and violence in children. Many researchers now claim that too much television is not good for kids. Nevertheless, I strongly believe that television viewing can bring negative effects on youngsters such as laziness, difficulty concentrating at school, and aggressive behavior. Firstly, prolonged periods in front of the television which is a sedentary activity can trigger many health problems such as obesity and related diseases. Meanwhile, extended periods in front of the television mean that children are not being physically active. Moreover, children may become autistic as television viewing encourages the development of antisocial behavior. Briefly, obesity will become the most discernible fallout when children consume too much calories. Secondly, children’s thinking skills can be adversely affected if they watch inappropriate television programs for a long period. Moreover, children who are heavy viewers are among the lowest achievers at school because they do not develop imaginative skills to create fictitious characters, situations and make-believe worlds. In short, excessive television watching hours may plague the healthy thinking of children. Besides, most television broadcasters show a variety of programs 24 hours a day, giving the viewers a 24-hour service. More time spent watching these shows is linked with poorer overall school performance and lower grades on standardized
