Derek Snider Mrs. Clymer Argument March 6th, 2015 Realization of Fairness in Today’s Society “No human race is superior; no religious faith is inferior. All collective judgments are wrong. Only racists make them” (Wiesel). In today’s American society, white males are not privileged as many people seem to believe. Americans seem to think that their individual demographic is oppressed. Many people can hold a steady argument on why they are oppressed, proving things that they can’t do that others can, while the opposite race is arguing back saying they have privileges that the other doesn't, causing a never ending circle of oppression. There are several laws and rights enforced today that would prove minorities have just as many rights and opportunities as a white man. Since 2009, we have had a colored president. The highest rank a person can get in America. Barack Obama became the first African American President, when most Americans believed that a white American will get a job over them because they are not white. The United States proves otherwise, an African American man became the most powerful man in the world by being elected by a predominantly white country. America is supposedly the country for freedom to be yourself, fairness, and opportunity; yet it is the average American causing the oppression to others. Minorities believe that they can not get into college because some colleges will not accept them. This statement does not make sense because there are colleges and universities where blacks were the majority of the population. To get into a college, you have to complete a couple of things. Take some sort of standardized test, get a decent grade point average, and have a decent resume.
